BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: To describe characteristics of recurrent pressure ulcers (PrUs) in veterans with spinal cord injury (SCI).
DESIGN: Descriptive, cohort study.
SETTINGS AND PARTICIPANTS: Twenty-four veterans with SCI from 6 SCI centers in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
METHODS: Data from a prospective study evaluating PrUs were analyzed for 24 veterans with 29 recurrent PrUs during 9 months. Additional retrospective medical record data were analyzed for 15 veterans who received inpatient treatment.

Low blood pressure has been found to be associated with cognitive decline and dementia in cross-sectional studies. INTRODUCTION: The development of coagulopathy in acute liver failure (ALF) is universal. The severity of the coagulopathy is often assessed by determination of the prothrombin time and International Normalized Ratio (INR).
DISCUSSION: In more than 1,000 ALF cases, the severity of the coagulopathy was moderate in 81% (INR 1.5-5.0), severe in 14% (INR 5.0-10.0), and very severe in 5% (INR > 10.0). Certain etiologies were associated with more severe coagulopathy, whereas ALF caused by fatty liver of pregnancy had the least severe coagulopathy.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a chronic adult disorder of unknown cause. It is characterized by gradual onset of gait impairment, cognitive dysfunction, and urinary incontinence in the presence of enlarged ventricles. NPH is a relatively rare cause of these 3 common symptoms. This report describes the case of a young boy who sustained a bicycle-spoke puncture wound during which the tire air nozzle penetrated the cutaneous barrier about the ankle. Pressurized air was injected into the tissues resulting in subcutaneous emphysema. The subcutaneous gas was confirmed by roentgenogram, and a full recovery resulted after local wound care and antibiotic therapy.
