Pharmacokinetics and toxicity of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) applied intra-arterially into the liver were studied in control and cirrhotic rats. Cirrhosis was induced by administering thioacetamide (4.5 mg/rat X day) over 6 months. 5-FU was administered into the hepatic artery at 30 mg/kg b.w. by bolus injection followed by infusion of 0.63 mg/kg X min for 40 min. Mesenteric ischemia after cardiac surgery is rare but dramatic. We present a patient who had acute mesenteric ischemia following low cardiac output after coronary artery bypass grafting. Our patient was successfully treated with continuous intra-arterial perfusion with papaverine. We think that selective angiography must be performed as early as mesenteric ischemia is suspected, to get earlier diagnosis and treatment of an ischemic patient.

We measured pressure in a prenodal lymphatic in the canine forelimb during constant flow pump-perfusion of the brachial artery. Although, in theory, selective chemical ablation of neurons in the GPm could preserve vital structures jeopardized by surgery, the potential of this approach is limited when using traditional techniques of drug delivery. The acute response of the hepatic circulation to thrombinaemia and endotoxinaemia were investigated in the anaesthetized dog.
