INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Tumours of the parapharyngeal space are rare, representing only 0.5 % of head and neck oncology. The aim of this study is to present our experience with the diagnosis and therapies for these tumours.
PATIENTS AND METHOD: This study is a retrospective review of 51 patients diagnosed as having tumours of the parapharyngeal space and treated surgically between 1984 and 2006. Tumours originating in the deep lobe of parotid gland were excluded.

Acinic cell carcinoma of the breast is an uncommon neoplasm. Since the first case of this rare variant of breast carcinoma was reported in 1996, only 10 cases have been reported in the English-language literature. Reported herein is the first case of primary acinic cell carcinoma of the breast in a Japanese woman. To the naked eye, the tumor appeared well circumscribed and the cut surface was grayish-pink and hemorrhaging. BACKGROUND: The Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology (MSRSGC) is a 6-tier diagnostic category system with associated risks of malignancy (ROMs) and management recommendations. Submandibular gland fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is uncommon with a higher frequency of inflammatory lesions and a higher relative proportion of malignancy, and this may affect the ROM and subsequent management. Dermoid cyst of the parotid gland is a lesion composed of benign tissues of ectodermal and mesodermal origin. Although a dermoid cyst can be encountered across nearly all sites of the body, its location in the head and neck area is quite uncommon and even more unusual inside the parotid gland. We present a case of a patient with gradually enlarging tumour in her right parotid gland who underwent surgical removal of the tumour histologically corresponding to a dermoid cyst.

Polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) is a rare salivary gland malignant tumor of low aggressiveness, commonly occurring in minor salivary glands. Its occurrence in major salivary gland has been documented albeit rarely. The striking histological feature is architectural diversity combined with benign cytologic features. We report a case of PLGA arising from left parotid in a 25-year-old male patient. On light microscopy, varied patterns were seen .The cells were uniform with bland nuclei. Neural invasion was noted.
