Psychosocial adjustment and quality of life among multiple myeloma patients undergoing evaluation for autologous stem cell transplantation.

Stem cell transplantation has assumed a prominent place in the treatment of multiple myeloma, but relative to patients with other malignancies there is surprisingly little information about the adjustment difficulties and quality-of-life changes that these patients experience. This study examined psychosocial and functional deficits among myeloma patients assessed at a uniform period during their initial diagnostic evaluation, prior to beginning protocols at a transplant center. Validated self-report measures and clinician rating scales were used to assess 213 patients. Outcomes evaluated incl

Combining transplant professional's psychosocial donor evaluation and donor self-report measures to optimise the prediction of HRQoL after kidney donation: an observational prospective multicentre study.

OBJECTIVES: Living donor kidney transplantation is currently the preferred treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease. The psychosocial evaluation of kidney donor candidates relies mostly on the clinical viewpoint of transplant professionals because evidence-based guidelines for psychosocial donor eligibility are currently lacking. However, the accuracy of these clinical risk judgements and the potential added value of a systematic self-reported screening procedure are as yet unknown. The current study examined the effectiveness of the psychosocial evaluation by transplant professiona

Psychosocial Interventions for Alcohol Use Disorder: A Review of Efficacy, Mechanisms, and Clinical Implications.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a prevalent global health challenge associated with substantial morbidity, mortality, and socioeconomic burden, yet significant gaps remain in access to effective treatment. Psychosocial interventions are fundamental components of evidence-based care for AUD and play a critical role in promoting abstinence, reducing harmful alcohol consumption, preventing relapse, and improving psychosocial functioning. Despite the availability of several established therapeutic approaches, comprehensive syntheses comparing their effectiveness, mechanisms of action, and emerging a…

Understanding trauma as a system of psycho-social harm: Contributions from the Australian royal commission into child sex abuse.

This article examines how particular understandings of trauma as a systemic form of psychosocial harm framed the establishment of the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, informed its successful investigatory process, and shaped its recommendations and outcomes. In so doing, the Royal Commission makes an important contribution to the field of trauma studies, which has been characterized by contested histories and is subject to continuing debate in clinical and academic research. For much of the twentieth century, trauma and its impacts have been typic

Efficacy and acceptability of psychosocial interventions in schizophrenia: systematic overview and quality appraisal of the meta-analytic evidence.

Psychosocial interventions are recommended in schizophrenia and first-episode psychosis/early psychosis (EP). Nevertheless, literature is heterogeneous and often contradictory. We conducted an umbrella review of (network) meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing psychosocial interventions vs treatment as usual (TAU)/active interventions(ACTIVE)/MIXED controls. Primary outcome was total symptoms (TS); secondary outcomes were positive/negative/depressive symptoms (PS/NS/DS), cognition, functioning, relapse, hospitalization, quality of life (QoL), treatment discontinuation.
