The effect of inhibitors of the carbonic anhydrase on aqueous humor formation suggests that carbonic anhydrase has an important role in ion transport across the ciliary epithelium. We therefore investigated the role of carbonic anhydrase in Na+ and Cl- transport in cultured bovine pigmented ciliary epithelial cells (PE) using the radioactive isotopes 22Na and 36Cl. Nine postkeratoplasty eyes with persistent intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation were treated under an investigational protocol by transscleral YAG cyclocoagulation (TSYCC). All eyes were using the maximally tolerated antiglaucomatous medical therapy. Some eyes also had prior antiglaucomatous surgery, including cyclocryotherapy. Interactions of several muscarinic drugs with their receptors were studied in the ciliary body smooth muscles of the rabbit. The carbonic anhydrase 2 (Car2) gene encodes the primary isoenzyme responsible for aqueous humor (AH) production and plays a major role in the regulation of intraocular pressure (IOP). INTRODUCTION: Mesectodermal leiomyoma of the ciliary body is a benign rare tumor that rarely presents acutely with a complicated clinical course.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We are reporting a 39-year-old healthy female who presented with subacute blurred vision in her right eye secondary to a ciliary body mass. Initial fine needle aspiration biopsy ruled out a melanoma but the patient meanwhile experienced rapid complicated growth of the mass with vision loss, for which her right globe was eventually enucleated. The tumor was diagnosed histopathologically to be mesectodermal leiomyoma.

IMPORTANCE: There is variation in the literature for sclerotomy and intravitreal injection placement in young children, ranging from 0.5 to 3.0 mm from the limbus. We report a rare case of ciliary body metastasis from adenocarcinoma of the lung. Although the metastatic nodule was seen over the surface of the iris near the angle of anterior chamber, ultrasonography confirmed its origin from the ciliary body. Uveal metastasis may be the first sign of lung cancer.
