Treatment of metastatic bone fractures could be challenging, especially in elderly oncologic patients. Recent treatment options like photody … tional outcomes, the risk of complications, such as: hardware failure, and the necessity for future hardware removal, should not be ignored. The results obtained from this analysis are promising; however, further randomized studies will be necessary to determine the superiority of the method over current treatments.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a well-established therapy for advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD), yet peri-electrode edema remains a poorly … le effective in acute management, may fail to prevent recurrence in certain patients, necessitating hardware removal. In most cases, the edema resolves without the need for intervention. This case underscores that severe neurological sequelae may arise even after standard management, highlighting the need for individualized therapeutic strategies. Our study provid …

BACKGROUND: Although intramedullary headless compression screw fixation for distal fibular fractures has been described, its biomechanical properties remain underexplored in orthopedic literature. Distal fibular fractures are commonly treated with plate-and-screw constructs; however, complications related to hardware prominence, soft tissue irritation, and hardware removal are frequent. Retrograde intramedullary headless compression screw fixation may offer a biomechanically stable, minimally invasive alternative.
OBJECTIVE: To biomechanically compare retrograde intramedullary headless compre…

Lateral column arthrodesis of the tarsometatarsal joints is a highly controversial topic in foot and ankle surgery, with minimal prospective research and reproducible findings in the current literature. Arthrodesis of the lateral fourth and fifth tarsometatarsal joints, when performed, is most often done secondary to post-traumatic osteoarthritis or Charcot's neuroarthropathy deformity. This case report focuses on arthrodesis of the lateral column in a patient with post-traumatic osteoarthritis from a previously sustained Lisfranc fracture-dislocation. The patient also experienced a cavus foot

PURPOSE: Reoperations for secondary osteoarthritis, osteonecrosis, or hardware failure following failed internal fixation after intertrochanteric fracture (ITF) or femoral neck fracture (FNF) are common. An effective salvage treatment often involves complete removal of the hardware followed by total hip arthroplasty (THA). Almost no data are available regarding conversion to short-stem THA. This study aimed to evaluate clinical and radiological outcomes, potential complications, and the survival rate of short-stem THA following revision surgery.
METHODS: We investigated 27 patients who underw

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Intracranial migration of cranial fixation hardware is a rare complication of neurosurgical procedures, and migration into the ventricular system is exceedingly uncommon. When such migration leads to obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pathways, it can result in acute hydrocephalus requiring urgent intervention.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 10-year-old girl with a history of left frontotemporal ganglioglioma underwent synthetic Medpor cranioplasty for radiation necrosis-associated calvarial erosion. Intraoperatively, a fixation screw inadvertently plunged through a

INTRODUCTION: The rate of nonunion of operatively treated fractures of humeral shaft is low. Increased incidence of nonunion is associated with different conditions such as open fractures, bone loss, or fracture gapping. Nonunions after prior intramedullary nailing can be difficult to address, even more with hardware failure. We present the case of a humeral nail breakage 11 years after implantation, secondary to nonunion.
CASE REPORT: A 33-year-old man referred to our hospital with oligotrophic nonunion of the middle humeral diaphysis and nail breakage after 11 years from the first fracture.

BACKGROUND: Guidance for wound management of the vacated generator pocket in cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) pocket infections after removal of all hardware and tissue debridement is limited. The typical surgical technique for management of a purulent wound is to allow healing by secondary intention. An alternative approach uses negative pressure wound therapy with or without delayed primary closure. While effective in managing infection, these approaches increase hospital length of stay and costs. We present our experience with a third option: modified early primary wound closure

BACKGROUND: Though most of the pediatric diaphyseal forearm bone fracture can be treated with closed reduction and cast application, indications for operative intervention in pediatric both-bone forearm fractures include open fractures, irreducible fractures, and unstable fractures. Controversy exists as to what amount of angulation, displacement, and rotation constitutes an acceptable reduction.
OBJECTIVE: To review union time and functional outcome of pediatric diaphyseal forearm bone fracture managed with intramedullary rush pin by closed or open reduction.

Between 1985 and 1989, the senior author performed 120 consecutive pedicle instrumentation cases--78 Steffee (VSP) procedures and 42 procedures using Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation. Posterolateral or posterior fusions using autogenous iliac bone graft were performed across the instrumented vertebrae in all cases. Survivorship analysis was used to calculate a predicted cumulative rate of success for this series of patients over 10 years postoperative follow-up. The criteria of failure of pedicular instrumentation or "death" of an implant were defined as 1) screw bending, 2) screw breakage, 3)

CASE: A 46-year-old man underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of left scapular, humerus, and clavicle fractures after a snowmobile accident. He subsequently developed severe left infraspinatus weakness with electromyogram evidence of suprascapular entrapment at the spinoglenoid notch. Intraoperatively, suprascapular nerve compression from an ossified spinoglenoid ligament was observed. Scapular hardware was removed, the ossified ligament was resected, and neurolysis was performed. At 6 months postoperatively, the patient demonstrated return of infraspinatus function.

Both hook plate fixation and suture button-anchor fixation have been reported to yield good results in the treatment of acute acromioclavicular joint reconstruction. In addition to a mandatory secondary procedure, hook plate fixation clearly has an increased prevalence of post-traumatic acromioclavicular arthritis in the short term that is likely to progress in the long term. Conversely, suture button-anchor fixation-a minimally invasive technique that creates less soft-tissue disruption, does not require hardware removal, and does not violate the acromioclavicular joint-is more likely to prom…
