Eighty-four patients with testicular seminoma were treated at the Northern Israel Oncology Center during the years 1968-1988. Using the staging classification of Hussey, 69 patients (82%) had Stage I, eight (10%) had Stage IIA, four (5%) had Stage IIB, one (1%) had Stage IIIA, and two (2%) had Stage IIIB disease. The prevalence of antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii was measured in two rural populations in northern Israel--Jewish kibbutz members and Arab villagers. The respective prevalences in these two populations were 22.2% and 55.8% (P < 0.001). Of 3,079 children in a medium-sized community near Jerusalem, 11.2% were found to be infested with living lice and eggs and another 23.4% had only nits. Boys and girls were equally infested. A total of 11,460 women in the first 4 months of pregnancy, either exposed to or with suspected clinical rubella were tested for rubella antibody during an extensive epidemic of this disease in 1972. The proportion of women who were seronegative decreased from 25% at the beginning of the epidemic to 16% toward the end. Various forms of voluntary migration have been and remain among the leading causes of the worldwide dispersal of parasites. Although helminthic infections are common in Africa, they are rare in Israel, making diagnosis challenging for many clinicians. We present 22 years of experience diagnosing under-recognized, long-lasting helminthic infections in migrants from African countries: Strongyloides stercoralis (up to 24 years), Schistosoma mansoni (up to 15 years), and hookworm (up to 12 years).

During 2011-16, HIV outbreaks occurred among people who inject drugs (PWID) in Canada (southeastern Saskatchewan), Greece (Athens), Ireland (Dublin), Israel (Tel Aviv), Luxembourg, Romania (Bucharest), Scotland (Glasgow), and USA (Scott County, Indiana).
