Frequency of gout in French Polynesia has induced us to define a type of "hyperuricemia Polynesian" from a population of patients admitted in a general Medicine Ward. Each admitted patient gets immediately a blood check-up. A figure higher than 70 mg/l in male and 60 mg/l in female is considered as pathological. In such a case, uricemia and uraturia are tested every 24 h for three days and we consider the mean value of these three tests. Clinicopathological reports on infarction in the territory of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) are rare. In the present series cerebellar infarcts involved only the AICA territory in 13 cases. They were bilateral in 3 cases. The presence of filariasis was investigated through Knott's method in 40 Curripaco Indians from communities located on the Casiquiare and Guainia Rivers in the Amazon Federal Territory of Venezuela. The first case of mycetoma caused by Nocardia brasiliensis from the Union Territory of Delhi is reported. The patient, a permanent resident of the Union Territory of Delhi, acquired the disease 10 years ago following an accidental injury to his right hand. The diagnosis of the case was made on the basis of demonstration of the grains in direct microscopy, isolation of the organism in culture directly from the grains, identifying the organism by the conventional tests and through histopathology of the biopsy from the affected portion.

The influence of urbanization on ticks I. ricinus and I. persulcatus--the main vectors of tick-borne encephalitis virus is discussed on the basis of concrete examples. It has been revealed that under favourable conditions the populations of these tick species can exist for a long time not only in towns and new housing estates, but in the old residential districts as well. The necessity of studying the ecology of urban populations of ixodid ticks is pointed out.
