Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is an approach to resection of bronchogenic cysts (BC) which is effective and viable. There may be complications as a result of pericystic adhesions to neighboring structures during dissection. This report describes an unusual case of an operative complication, the rupture of the main left bronchus. The initial VATS approach was converted into a right thoracotomy to remove the cyst and suture the bronchus once adequate exposure was obtained. We describe the surgical removal of a pedunculated solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura through single-access (uniportal) video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. At the end of the procedure, no chest drain was inserted and the patient discharged home after an 8-hour observation period. Uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery can represent a suitable surgical option for small solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura.

Peculiarities of endobronchial intubation and guaranteeing the monopulmonary ventilation parameters in videothoracoscopic interventions were studied up. Various methods of pulmonary collapse achievement were adduced. A 68-year-old female was admitted to our hospital for further examination of abnormal shadow on chest X-ray. Needle biopsy could not establish pathological diagnosis. Three years later, chest computed tomography (CT) revealed the tumor was enlarged. We suspected it was a malignant tumor, and resected by video-assisted thoracoscopy. The tumor occurred from the right middle lobe, and intraoperative diagnosis was malignant tumor. We added middle lobectomy. Histological examination revealed that tumor was malignant solitary fibrous tumor.

We report two cases of bronchogenic cyst in the diaphragm. Case 1 was a female patient with hepatocellular carcinoma. Computed tomography showed a tumor in the right lower lung and metastasis was suspected initially because of underlying disease and imaging findings. Case 2 was a female patient who presented with prolonged intermittent cough. Computed tomography showed a tumor in the left lower lung. Both tumors were excised by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, and the diagnosis was confirmed by histopathology.

In patients with afibrinogenemia who require operation, prophylaxis against bleeding is important. We report the case of a 14-year-old boy with Marfan syndrome and congenital afibrinogenemia in whom hemopneumothorax developed. Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery was performed successfully under intravenous administration of fibrinogen and with careful monitoring of plasma fibrinogen level.

We report thoracoscopic resection of Castleman lymphoma originated from the posterior mediastinum. The patient was a 19-year-old woman, who was pointed out to show an abnormal shadow in the left upper lung in the chest X-ray photograph. A 17-year-old man, who had received a diagnosis of juvenile polymyositis (PM) at the age of 1 year, developed recurrent spontaneous pneumothoraces and underwent surgical treatment by means of video-assisted thoracic surgery. Intraoperative observation and microscopic studies demonstrated numerous bleb-like lesions below the visceral pleura. To our knowledge, this is the first article that describes a case of spontaneous pneumothorax associated with PM. Our observation should lead to broadening of the spectrum of pleuropulmonary manifestations of PM.

A biliary pleural fistula is a rare complication secondary to trauma, infection, malignancy, biliary disease, malignancies, or percutaneous procedures. Its presence may be suggested by the development of a right pleural effusion in a patient with such history and can be confirmed with a hepatobiliary scan or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.
