A total of 67 patients, including 44 continent patients and 23 patients suffering from stress incontinence, underwent color Doppler examination of the urethra. The maximal urethral pressure and the amplitude of the urethral pulse were measured in 35 of the patients. The clinico-pathological features of nine urethral and urinary bladder polyps with prostate-type epithelium are described. The average age of the patients was 46 years. Eight cases of rupture of the posterior urethra were observed in children and treated via a trans-symphyseal approach. Repair was easy in the cases seen rapidly (2 to 10 days), urethral suture was effective and the result was excellent. On the other hand, in cases seen later (6 cases), between 6 months and 5 years, marked fibrous callus had to be resected. Urethral repair was not always possible (only one failure out of 6 late cases). This approach preserves genital functions.

We report on 3 cases of stone formation in the prostatic urethra after cryosurgical ablation of the prostate. This complication occurred late in the course, many months after the normal postoperative healing process apparently was finished and patients enjoyed normal voiding. Transrectal ultrasound proved to be useful in making the diagnosis. Treatment included lithotripsy and cold resection of residual dead tissue.

A previously well 43-yr-old man with congenital hypospadias presented with a fungating lesion of 2 mths duration and surrounding the ventral urethral opening. After biopsy showed this to be a squamous cell carcinoma, a definitive procedure of partial penile amputation and urethroplasty was performed. This is believed to be the first reported case of squamous cell carcinoma of the distal urethra in conjunction with hypospadias.

In a 12-week gestation fetus, routine ultrasound examination suggested dilated loops of bowel. Repeat scans at 13 and 15 weeks showed normal growth but persistence of bowel dilatation. At 20 weeks there was megacystis, hyperechogenic bowel, ascites, and oligohydramnios. The diagnosis of cloacal abnormality was suspected and the parents chose to have pregnancy termination. Post-mortem examination demonstrated female pseudohermaphroditism with agenesis of the urethra, vagina, and rectum.

Nineteen clear cell adenocarcinomas of the urethra, 18 from women and one from a man, are described. The patients ranged from 35 to 80 years of age (average, 58 yrs). The clinical presentation and gross findings were similar to those of urethral carcinomas, except that 12 tumors, all from women, arose within a urethral diverticulum. The most common method of exocrine drainage in pancreatic transplantation is urinary drainage. With the shift from enteric drainage and duct occlusion techniques, there has been a concomitant shift from intraabdominal to urological complications. We present a case in which a simultaneous pancreas-kidney (SPK) transplant recipient developed urethral disruption and associated bladder outlet obstruction 11 months following surgery.

Seventeen cases of a solitary polyp of posterior urethra in children (ages ranged between 4 months and 12 years) are presented. All patients were treated endoscopically using a 10 Fr. pediatric cystoscope, equipped with a straight ahead lens, and a Bugbee 3 Fr. electrode to fulgurate the stalk of the polyp through the urethra, without meatotomy. A rare case of urethral flat wart caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 was reported. A 34-year-old male consulted our department with a complaint of urethral bleeding. A pair of symmetrical white flat warts combined with ulcer at the urethral meatus were found. Microscopic examination of the specimen demonstrated koilocytosis of the epithelium. In immunohistochemical study it was positive for HPV and HPV type 16 was detected by polymerase chain reaction.
