Optical coherence tomography in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.

Optical contrast is often the limiting factor in the imaging of live biological tissue. Studies were conducted in postmortem human brain to identify clinical applications where the structures of interest possess high intrinsic optical contrast and where the real-time, high-resolution imaging capabilities of optical coherence tomography (OCT) may be critical. Myelinated fiber tracts and blood vessels are two structures with high optical contrast. The ability to image these two structures in real time may improve the efficacy and safety of a neurosurgical procedure to treat Parkinson's disease c

Optical coherence tomography artefact burden predicts cognitive decline and incident dementia.

INTRODUCTION: Scalable, low-burden biomarkers for predicting cognitive decline remain needed. We hypothesised that OCT acquisition irregularities (commonly termed scan artefacts), which may reflect visuomotor and attentional instability during imaging, carry prognostic information for cognitive outcomes. METHODS: We studied 507 Asian memory clinic participants who underwent baseline OCT imaging and comprehensive neuropsychological assessment annually for up to 5 years. OCT artefacts (motion, shadow, off-centre, refractive shift, out-of-boundary, and tilt) and signal strength were graded at ba

Optical Coherence Tomography Biomarkers in Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment: A Narrative Review.

Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a vision-threatening retinal disorder in which successful anatomical reattachment does not always result in satisfactory functional visual recovery. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has become an essential non-invasive imaging modality for evaluating retinal microstructure and identifying biomarkers associated with postoperative visual outcomes. This narrative review summarizes and critically evaluates current evidence regarding the prognostic significance of OCT biomarkers following RRD repair. Available studies indicate that primary outer retinal

Retrospective patient-specific intravascular brachytherapy dosimetry using optical coherence tomography imaging.

PURPOSE: Drug-eluting stents fail in up to 20% of patients. In failed cases, intravascular brachytherapy (IVBT) is administered with β-emitting 90Sr90Y through a guidewire. Current clinical dosimetry is water-based, neglecting attenuation from patient-specific materials such as plaques, stents, and the off-centered guidewire, leading to a discrepancy between prescribed and delivered dose. This study retrospectively performed patient-specific IVBT dose calculations using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to quantify uncertainties in clinical dosimetry. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Dose calculations

A three-dimensional multi-modal foundation model for optical coherence tomography.

Vision loss caused by retinal diseases remains a leading global cause of disability. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging technique that is used for diagnosing retinal diseases. Computational models can use OCT images for various diagnostic and prognostic tasks, but most existing approaches fail to fully leverage the rich three-dimensional (3D) structure of OCT data and lack the capability to integrate other retinal imaging modalities into the analysis. Here, to address these limitations, we present OCTCube-M, a 3D OCT-based multi-modal framework designed for the integrated analysi

Tear Film Interferometry, Meibography, and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography for Rosacea.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis that may involve the eye, causing surface and adnexal damage that can precede cutaneous signs. Detecting subclinical ocular changes is clinically important because early ocular surface dysfunction may be missed on routine examination yet progress to corneal complications, allowing earlier preventive management when identified. We prospectively evaluated subclinical ocular alterations in cutaneous rosacea using a combined, fully non-invasive high-tech imaging workflow-tear film interferometry, infrared meibography, and explorat

Quantitative evaluation of retina with optical coherence tomography in experimental rabbits.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a modern imaging technology crucial for diagnosing retinal diseases by providing high-resolution, non-invasive images of biological tissues. Despite the widespread use of rabbits in ophthalmological research due to their anatomical similarities to the human eye, comprehensive data on normal retinal thickness in rabbits using OCT is limited. This study was conducted with the objective of measuring retinal thickness in rabbits using an OCT device specifically designed for their eyes. The study included 42 rabbits grouped according to age (3-6 and 12 months)
