Vibrational spectroscopic study on pyrimidine metal(II) tetracyanometalate complexes.

The results of an infrared and Raman spectroscopic study are reported for seven new metal(II) pyrimidine tetracyanonickelate complexes, M(pyr)2Ni(CN)4 [where (pyr) = pyrimidine; M = Mn, Fe, Co, Zn, Ni, Cu or Cd] and an IR spectroscopic study is presented for new cadmium pyrimidine tetracyanometalate complex, Cd(pyr)2Cd(CN)4. The spectral data suggest that the first seven compounds belong to the Hofmann-type and the last compound belongs to the Hofmann-Td-type of complexes.

Effects of vibration in inline skating on the Hoffmann reflex, force, and proprioception.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to examine the effects of vibrations induced by inline skating on the Hoffmann (H) reflex, maximal voluntary isometric (MVC) force, and ankle proprioception. METHODS: Accelerometers were used to measure the frequencies and amplitudes of the vibrations encountered at the skate and mid-tibia levels. The soleus H reflex was recorded before and after (for 30 min) inline skating for 30 min. Maximal plantarflexor contractions were performed against a strain gauge while EMG was recorded from the soleus and medial gastrocnemius muscles. An ankle position-match…

Eigenvalues and principal component loadings of heavily overlapped vibrational spectra.

In order to illustrate the possibilities of principal component analysis in determining the number of components in a system of heavily overlapped spectra, several numerical spectral models were formed of bands with very close parameters. The models consisted of three bands, whose peak positions were locally shifted and noise added. For all the cases the relations between eigenvalues and principal component loadings were considered. It was shown that for those complex spectra for which peak positions and band halfwidths can be determined with high accuracy, eigenvalues criteria could easily in

Strobophotoglottographic transillumination as a method for the analysis of vocal fold vibration patterns.

The purpose of this exploratory study was to determine if laryngeal transillumination in combination with stroboscopy (strobophotoglottography; SPGG) is useful for (1) the visualization of vocal fold vibration (VFV) opening patterns, (2) the localization of initial vocal fold opening in horizontal glottal thirds (anterior, midmembranous, and posterior), (3) determination of the temporal correspondence of the so-called electroglottography (EGG)-knee and initial vocal fold separation, and, finally, (4) automatized quantitative measurements of glottal area function within endoscopic images. With …

[The hypothalamic regulation of the activity of vestibular neurons during exposure to vibration].

In acute experiments in rabbits the influence of stimulation of the ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus on the activity of neurons of vestibular Deiters' nucleus was studied under conditions of 15-day exposure to vibration (60 Hz, 0.8 mm, 3 h daily). The mechanisms are discussed which underlie the observed phenomena.

[Effects of frame of reference on the judgments of whole-body vibration intensity].

Although the concept of the term 'riding comfort' is ambiguous, in the present paper it means a perceptual experience derived from the vibrational factors of a running railway vehicle. When we regard riding comfort evaluation as a perceptual judgment process, we must consider that what is perceived is dependent not only on the physical properties of the stimuli, but also on the frame of reference. The purpose of the present study is to examine the effect of the frame on the judgments of vibration intensity in the anchoring effect paradigm. Using the four-axis vibration apparatus, we conducted …

[Simultaneous recording of vocal cord vibrations by ultrasound laryngography and photoelectroglottography].

A newly developed ultrasonic laryngeal imaging system, ultrasound laryngography (ULG), can record vocal cord vibrations by the simultaneous use of high-speed M-mode, ultrasonic pulse transmissions, and the other methods. The purpose of this study was to compare normal male vocal cord vibrations simultaneously recorded by ULG at several pitches and loudness with those obtained by photoelectroglottography (PGG). The open quotient (OQ), speed quotient (SQ), and speed index (SI) were measured by these two methods. While only relative glottal area can be obtained by PGG, exact glottal width can be …

[Combined effects of noise and vibration on the cells of the hearing and vestibular organs].

Guinea pigs were used to study the combined effect of total-body vibration (with the peak values in the mean geometric frequency of 31.5 and 63 Hz octave bands equal to 66 and 76 dB, respectively) and constant wide-band noise with the sound pressure 85 dBA, 90 dBLin. The exposure time was 3 hrs as well as 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 60 and 90 days of 3 hrs daily. The combined action of noise and vibration with the above characteristics produced a deleterious effect on receptor cells of the hearing organ, particularly of the spiral organ. The changes were recorded in the form of rhythmical functional pul…

Treatment of male sexual deviation by use of a vibrator: case report.

A new technique of enhancement of heterosexual responsiveness is described. This uses a classical conditioning paradigm with heterosexual photographic material as the CS and erections elicited by a vibrator as the UCS. A 44-year-old fetishist was treated in this manner. His response to treatment was favorable and details of change are presented. The timing of physiological and diary measure changes is in line with an explanation in terms of the treatment procedure. However, attitude changes began before treatment commenced.

Three-dimensional imaging and molecular analysis of the effects of photobiomodulation and mechanical vibration on orthodontic retention treatment in rats : Effects of photobiomodulation and mechanical vibration on orthodontic retention treatment.

PURPOSE: We aimed to evaluate and compare effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) and low-magnitude high-frequency mechanical vibration (HFMV) on orthodontic retention. METHODS: Sixty-four female Wistar albino rats were divided into 9 groups (2 negative and positive controls each, 3 PBM and 2 HFMV groups) and studied for 25 days. In the experimental groups, closed nickel-titanium closed coil springs with a 50 cN force were placed for 10 days between the maxillary incisor and molar. PBM and HFMV were applied daily over long- (15 days) and short-term (7 days) retention periods. The PBM groups recei…

Communication: He-tagged vibrational spectra of the SarGlyH⁺ and H⁺(H₂O)(2,3) ions: quantifying tag effects in cryogenic ion vibrational predissociation (CIVP) spectroscopy.

To assess the degree to which more perturbative, but widely used "tag" species (Ar, H2, Ne) affect the intrinsic band patterns of the isolated ions, we describe the extension of mass-selective, cryogenic ion vibrational spectroscopy to the very weakly interacting helium complexes of three archetypal ions: the dipeptide SarGlyH(+) and the small protonated water clusters: H(+)(H2O)(2,3), including the H5O2(+) "Zundel" ion. He adducts were generated in a 4.5 K octopole ion trap interfaced to a double-focusing, tandem time-of-flight photofragmentation mass spectrometer to record mass-selected vibr…

Does Frequency of the Mechanical Vibration Matter? Evaluating the Impact of Whole-Body Vibration Training on Older Adults Strength, Balance, and Gait Performance: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the optimal whole-body vibration training (WBVT) mechanical vibration frequency for enhancing muscle strength, static balance, dynamic balance, and gait performance among older adults through systematic review and network meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Scopus databases were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to December 2024. STUDY SELECTION: The RCTs comparing low-frequency WBVT (LF-WBVT, frequency of the mechanical vibration, f<20 Hz), medium-frequency WBVT (MF-WBVT, 20 Hz≤f<30 Hz), a…
