Amebiasis is an infectious disease produced by Entamoeba histolytica, which has invasion capacity of the colon mucosa. Adult Still's disease is characterized by typical spiking fever, oligopolyarthritis, neutrophilic leukocytosis and involvement of various organs. We report a case which illustrated typical digestive features of Still's disease as dysphagia, peritonitis and manifests the hitherto unreported complication of gastric ulcerations. Treatment with prednisone was started in order to control arthritis, resulting in improvement of both gastric ulcerations (partially resistant to omeprazole treatment) and arthralgia. AIM: To compare the efficacy of omeprazole (40 mgs/12 h i.v.) and cimetidine (1,200 mgs/i.v./day) in the management of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Randomized, prospective open clinical trial. The end points are: mortality, surgical requirements, transfusion requirements, and length of hospitalization in Bleeding Unit and Hospital.
PATIENTS: We study patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding from peptic sources (duodenal ulcer, gastriculcer, acute gastric erosions and peptic esophagitis). 462 patients are evaluated and 282 finally included.

A retrospective study of 102 patients, analysing the incidence of malnutrition, was done in the Digestive Surgery Department of the Queen Sophia University Hospital, Cordoba. Patients were subjected to a protocol of nutritional evaluation to find out their nutritional condition and type and degree of malnutrition. The high incidence of malnutrition sufferers (> 80%) at the time of hospital admission was confirmed, being more noticeable in neoplastic patients.

A clinical study on the incidence of malnutrition among hospital patients with digestive system surgical disease is presented. Eighty-one patients were admitted into this trial and underwent preoperative nutritional assessment, which permitted classifying the type and intensity of malnutrition, in order to develop the appropriate postoperative nutritional support. There was high malnutrition incidence among both cancer and non-cancer patients, reaching levels of 80%.

To clarify the possible relationship between angiodysplasia of the gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular disease, we performed a retrospective study of 58 consecutive patients.
