This article represents an overview of normal and pathological findings of the oral structures for the practicing radiologist. Some of the disease processes discussed are of dental etiology, whereas others are manifestations of systemic diseases. Normal tooth development is described followed by an overview of radiolucent, radiopaque, and mixed lucent-opaque lesions. Hilus cell abnormalities are uncommon causes of hirsutism with virilization. Although hilus cell tumours have been well described, hilus cell hyperplasia is rare and is poorly defined clinically. We describe three cases of hilus cell hyperplasia and compare them with a case of hilus cell tumour. Both pathologies were associated with increased testosterone and oestradiol secretion. We reviewed 88 pathologically proven cerebellar infarcts, examining the entire thoracocervical arterial system (including the spinal part of the vertebral artery, the intracranial arteries, and the heart) in all cases. For 50 infarcts, we found an arterial occlusion. The intracranial part of the vertebral artery was involved in 38 infarcts (76%), the basilar artery in 20 infarcts (40%), and a cerebellar artery in 12 infarcts (24%). The growth plate is made of cartilaginous, bony, and fibrous components, which act together to achieve longitudinal bone growth. The unique metabolism of the growth plate is a result of its unique microcirculation and extracellular microenvironment. The growth plate chondrocytes are responsive to both mechanical and hormonal stimuli, which can alter their normal function. Pathologic states result from environmental, hormonal, nutritional, and genetic factors.

Gerstmann-Sträussler syndrome (GSS) was diagnosed in a family with presenile dementia by prion protein gene analysis. Extensive histological examination of the brain of an affected individual from this family showed no characteristic features of GSS or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). Proper treatment of pedal nail disorders requires a thorough understanding of the underlying etiology. As a class, biomechanical abnormalities constitute an important cause of pedal nail dystrophy. These biomechanical etiologies have been presented with regard to the three body planes. Treatments using biomechanical and orthopedic principles were explored, with an emphasis on counteracting abnormal dynamic and static forces. Additionally, sports that have a high correlation of nail pathologies have been discussed with prevention as the key element to treatment.

In 43 women (average age 49.6 years), and 70 men (average age 55.2 years) with pathology of the genito-urinary apparatus, seroantibodies to Coxsachie virus B were measured using the passive hemoagglutination method and the virus was isolated in the uterine. Viral isolation test was negative in all urine samples tested. Seropositivity for Coxsackie virus was reported in 26 women (60.46%) and in 51 men (72.85%). Liver biopsies from nine patients with maturity-onset diabetes and fatty liver hepatitis were semiquantitatively assessed, and the findings compared with those in alcoholic hepatitis. Overall appearances were similar, but the lesion in some diabetics was periportal rather than perivenular in location, and nuclear vacuolation of hepatocyte nuclei was always present. The inflammatory infiltrate often included neutrophil leucocytes, as in the alcoholic. In three patients with multiple biopsies, progression appeared to be slow, but one patient developed cirrhosis.

The object of this paper is to briefly review the surgical aspects of the thymic pathology. Thymic cysts and thymic ectopy are usually asymptomatic and are one of the multiple etiologies of cervical masses. Thymic tumors are very rare and may sometimes be difficult to differentiate from simple thymic hyperplasia; being almost always separated from the normal thymic tissue by a dense capsule, they do not tend to extend rapidly. Thymectomy may be indicated in severe myasthenia.
