Patient-Centered Communication and Intention to Recommend a Safety Net Primary Care Clinic in the United States.

Patient-centered communication (PCC) is critical to improved patient experience and outcomes. We used binary logistic regression to examine how PCC at safety-net providers was associated with patient intent to recommend the facility. We used 2021-2022 national data collected by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Our predictors were Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) items to measure patient assessment of provider communication. We found that patients whose providers always listened carefully and knew important information about patients' medic

From Product-Quality Complaints to Patient-Safety Triage: A Structured Narrative Review and Proposed PRCS-TRACE Framework.

Product-quality complaints are usually handled as pharmaceutical quality-system events, yet defects in sterility, potency, identity, packaging, labelling, storage, distribution or delivery-device function may affect medication use, treatment continuity and patient outcomes. This structured narrative review examines product-quality complaints (PQCs) as a patient-safety interface linking pharmaceutical quality systems, pharmacovigilance, medication-error prevention, recall action and pharmacoepidemiology. Existing pharmacovigilance, quality-management and recall systems address different compone

AI for Health Care Quality and Patient Safety: Scoping Review of Diagnostic, Predictive, and Decision Support Applications.

BACKGROUND: AI systems have achieved strong performance on discrete diagnostic, predictive, and decision support tasks; yet, translation into sustained clinical benefit remains uneven. Existing reviews often examine single application areas, obscuring barriers that operate across the health care AI ecosystem. OBJECTIVE: This review aimed to map the published evidence on AI for health care quality and patient safety across application domains, characterize evidence maturity, and identify cross-domain barriers that limit translation into clinical value. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review f…

Association between patient safety culture, adverse events, and essential practices during childbirth in six Brazilian maternity hospitals.

OBJECTIVE: This study examines whether hospitals with stronger patient safety culture more consistently follow essential birth practices and have fewer adverse outcomes for mothers and newborns and whether this evidence can guide maternity care priorities in patient safety policy. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter cross-sectional study in six public maternity hospitals in Brazil (November 2022 to February 2024). In each hospital, we measured patient safety culture using the Brazilian version of the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture. From a systematic sample of 2183 births (approxima…

Surface wear and accumulation of microscopic residues on ageing stainless-steel surgical instruments may impact patient safety.

BACKGROUND: The stainless-steel surfaces of heat-sterilizable, reusable surgical instruments are subject to usage and age-related wearing through their lifetime. Soil tends to accumulate in poorly accessible areas and microscopic grooves and cavities present on these surfaces, which are often more difficult to decontaminate. AIM: To examine the surface of various stainless-steel reusable instruments for signs of wear and its potential impact on the efficacy of standard reprocessing using highly sensitive epifluorescence microscopy. METHODS: Using both bright light epi-microscopy and specific
