The application of drug ion-selective electrodes as sensors for the direct determination of the released drug in a continuous-flow analyzer for automated dissolution studies is described. Flow-through electrodes, selective to chlorpromazine, amitriptyline, propantheline, cimetidine, and ranitidine, have been constructed and used for the dissolution studies of 18 dosage forms using the rotating basket apparatus. A 46-year-old woman developed an anaphylactic reaction during percutaneous coronary intervention after she was pretreated with prednisone and diphenhydramine for a known allergy to iodine. She developed pruritus, edema, and nausea, which were followed by bradycardia and shock, minutes after administration of a bolus and standard-dose infusion of abciximab. The reaction was treated successfully with epinephrine, methoxamine, hydrocortisone, atropine, furosemide, sodium bicarbonate, diphenhydramine, and ranitidine.

The clinical manifestations of an anaphylactoid reaction are identical to true anaphylaxis; however, a previous exposure to the offending agent is not needed to manifest these symptoms. We present a case of an anaphylactoid reaction in a 62-y-o female following a first-time envenomation by a rattlesnake. The patient required s.c. epinephrine and i.v. diphenhydramine, methylprednisolone, and ranitidine. She had not been envenomated by a rattlesnake previously or received any horse-derived antivenins in the past.

As many as 82 patients were studied for effects of electrophoresis of the drug Béres Drops Plus against the background of basic therapy with a blocker of the histamine H2-receptors ranitidin in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcer.
