Perspectives on oral health care integration in HIV care and research in low-resource settings: Insights from patients and key stakeholders in Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Oral health conditions are common among people living with HIV, yet many have unmet needs for oral health care. In most low-income countries like Uganda, oral health is not yet integrated in the HIV care settings. We aimed to explore the stakeholder's perspectives on oral health care integration in HIV care and research settings. METHODS: We conducted focused group discussions (FGDs) among people living with HIV (PLHIV) and semi-structured interviews among other key stakeholders that included policy makers, educators and practitioners in fields of HIV and oral health. The particip

Recommendations for patient involvement in health technology assessment in Central and Eastern European countries.

INTRODUCTION: Meaningful patient involvement in health technology assessment (HTA) is essential in ensuring that the interests of the affected patient population, their families, and the general public are accurately reflected in coverage and reimbursement decisions. Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries are generally at less advanced stages of implementing HTA, which is particularly true for patient involvement activities. As part of the Horizon2020 HTx project, this research aimed to form recommendations for critical barriers to patient involvement in HTA in CEE countries. METHODS: B

The Role of Volunteers in Providing Palliative Care Services in Iran: A Qualitative Study.

Access to palliative care for patients with chronic illnesses, including cancer, is essential. However, limited health system resources and reliance on charitable support in many countries have created service gaps. Volunteers can play a key role in bridging these gaps. This qualitative study explored the roles and responsibilities of volunteers in Iran's palliative care services. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 stakeholders involved in volunteer-based palliative care, including policymakers/program managers, palliative care providers, community participation/public engagemen

Barriers and enablers of implementing bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP): Perspectives of health professionals in Malawi.

BACKGROUND: Preterm birth complications are the leading cause of neonatal deaths. Malawi has high rates of preterm birth, with 18.1 preterm births per 100 live births. More than 50% of preterm neonates develop respiratory distress which if left untreated, can lead to respiratory failure and death. Term and preterm neonates with respiratory distress can often be effectively managed with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and this is considered an essential intervention for the management of preterm neonates by the World Health Organization. Bubble CPAP may represent a safe and cost-effe

Development of a theory-informed questionnaire to assess the acceptability of healthcare interventions.

BACKGROUND: The theoretical framework of acceptability (TFA) was developed in response to recommendations that acceptability should be assessed in the design, evaluation and implementation phases of healthcare interventions. The TFA consists of seven component constructs (affective attitude, burden, ethicality, intervention coherence, opportunity costs, perceived effectiveness, and self-efficacy) that can help to identify characteristics of interventions that may be improved. The aim of this study was to develop a generic TFA questionnaire that can be adapted to assess acceptability of any hea

Development of a core outcome set for physiotherapy trials in adults with bronchiectasis (the COS-PHyBE study): A Delphi study and consensus meeting.

BACKGROUND: Physiotherapy is recommended for bronchiectasis management, but there is disparity in evidence supporting its use. This is partly because of inconsistency and poor reporting of outcomes in available studies. A Core Outcome Set (COS) may improve trial consistency and decrease reporting bias. This study aimed to develop a COS for physiotherapy clinical trials in adults with bronchiectasis. METHODS: A comprehensive list of outcomes was developed using a systematic review and qualitative semi-structured interviews with patients with bronchiectasis and physiotherapists. An international

Expert stakeholder perspectives on the acceptability of treatment-as-prevention in prison: a qualitative substudy of the 'Surveillance and Treatment of Prisoners with Hepatitis C' project (SToP-C).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Mathematical modelling has demonstrated the theoretical feasibility of HCV treatment-as-prevention strategies in custodial settings, yet limited empirical data exists. The Australian 'Surveillance and Treatment of Prisoners with Hepatitis C' study is the world's first trial of hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment-as-prevention in prison. This study aimed to analyse how expert stakeholders involved in the Australian HCV response assessed the acceptability of HCV treatment-as-prevention in prison using interview data from the SToP-C qualitative substudy. Transdisciplinary training to address challenges in genomic epidemiology of infectious diseases.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the emergence and detection of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern highlighted the pivotal role of genomic epidemiology in public health decision and policy making. The pandemic also revealed a need for genomic epidemiologists to effectively engage with a broader audience, including policymakers and the public. To address this need, we introduced a new transdisciplinary training workshop, "From Trees to Public Health Policy," at the Virus Evolution and Molecular Epidemiology (VEME) 2022 workshop in Panama City, designed to foster an enhanced understanding of the curren
