Prevalence of stressful life events and their association with post-traumatic stress disorder among youth attending secondary school in Haiti.

The association between earthquakes and youth post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been well described, but little is known about the relationship between other stressful life events (SLEs) and PTSD among earthquake-affected youth. This study examines a variety of SLEs, including earthquake, and their association with PTSD among school-going Haitian youth following a major earthquake in 2010. In 2013, we assessed 120 students ages 18-22 for PTSD and other SLEs using a modified Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID)-based interview and the Stressful Life Events Checklist (SLE Chec

Behavioral changes over time in post-traumatic stress disorder: Insights from a rat model of single prolonged stress.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is manifested as a persistent mental and emotional condition after potentially life-threatening events. Different animal models of PTSD have been developed for neuro-pathophysiology and pharmacological evaluations. A single prolonged stress (SPS) induced animal model has demonstrated to result in specific neuro-endocrinological dysregulation, and behavior abnormalities observed in PTSD. However, animal studies of PTSD have mostly been performed at one time point after SPS exposure. To better understand the development of PTSD-like behaviors in the SPS anim

Prediction models for postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder acts as an invisible scar, eroding maternal mental health and exerting long-term effects on infant development. Existing screening methods have limitations, hindering early prevention. Predictive models offer a promising approach for early identification of postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder. This study aims to establish a current evidence baseline and outline future directions through a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: We systematically searched ten databases-PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO,

Neuromarkers of post-traumatic stress disorder: A systematic review of positron emission tomography studies.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe mental health condition that can arise following exposure to a traumatic event. The identification of biomarkers using imaging techniques, such as positron emission tomography (PET) scans, offers an alternative to increasingly complex diagnostic approaches. This systematic review aims to assess and summarise the evidence for molecular biomarkers in PTSD. Studies published before June 2025 that examined brain changes using PET imaging in adult PTSD patients, were identified from three electronic databases. Inclusion criteria included original hum

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Among Undocumented Immigrants. Evidence for the Premier-Pas Survey.

OBJECTIVES: Undocumented immigrants are a highly vulnerable population, frequently exposed to violence and trauma in their country of origin, along the migration journey, and in the host country. This study investigates which factors experienced before, during, and after migration influence the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It also investigates whether PTSD relates to high-risk health behaviors in France. METHODS: We relied on a survey representative of undocumented immigrants attending facilities providing assistance to vulnerable populations in Paris and Bordeaux (Fr

Prediction models for postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Despite the increasing number of studies on prediction models for identifying the risk of postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder (PP-PTSD), the quality and clinical applicability of these models have not been clarified yet. OBJECTIVES: To systematically review and appraise the prediction models for PP-PTSD. METHODS: From inception to March 30, 2026, Web of Science, PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Scopus, CNKI, WANFANG and VIP were searched for primary studies involving development or validation of prediction models. Post-traumatic stress disorder moderates the association between BrainAge acceleration and GrimAge acceleration.

Individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are at higher risk for age-related physical comorbidities, such as cardiovascular disorders, and exhibit accelerated epigenetic and brain aging. The present study examined PTSD as a moderator of the association between DNA methylation (DNAm)-based systemic aging (GrimAge, PhenoAge) and brain aging, indexed by MRI-based and DNAm-derived BrainAge estimates, in 174 lifetime PTSD cases and 138 trauma-exposed controls from four cohorts. Peripheral DNAm assayed with the MethylationEPIC BeadChip was used to calculate epigenetic age acceleration (

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder among civilians in Indian-administered Kashmir: a systematic review.

PURPOSE: Prolonged exposure to armed conflict is associated with elevated rates of PTSD in civilian populations, such as Indian-administered Kashmir. This review aimed to systematically synthesise research on prevalence, risk factors, and correlates of PTSD among civilians in this setting and their association with armed conflict exposure. METHODS: A systematic review following PRISMA guidelines was conducted for empirical studies published up to 2025. Sixteen quantitative studies met the inclusion criteria. Due to heterogeneity in study design, sampling, and PTSD assessment, findings were sy

Impact of childbirth Post-traumatic stress disorder on the Mother-Infant Bond: a systematic review.

Traumatic birth is clinically defined as a labor process perceived by the mother as a significant threat to her or her newborn's safety, which can result in the development of Childbirth-Related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CB-PTSD). Women affected by CB-PTSD often face difficulties in forming positive and nurturing interactions with their infants, as the child may serve as a constant reminder of the traumatic event. A systematic review, which was based on the PRISMA guidelines, was conducted to analyze and critically assess existing research exploring the relationship between CB-PTSD and t

Post-traumatic stress disorder in patients with unintentional acute poisoning and its influencing factors.

INTRODUCTION: The population of patients with unintentional acute poisoning is large, yet clinicians pay relatively little attention to the psychological state of this group. This study aimed to investigate the current status of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its main influencing factors in patients with unintentional acute poisoning and provide data support and a theoretical basis for the prevention of PTSD and reduction of its incidence in this population. METHODS: Convenience sampling was used to select 312 patients with unintentional acute poisoning who were admitted to a terti

Clozapine for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder: Redefining Treatment Resistance in Soldiers without Psychosis.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often follows a chronic trajectory, with many patients failing to respond to first-line psychotherapy and SSRIs/SNRIs. This case series explores clozapine for treatment-resistant PTSD (TR-PTSD) without psychosis. Seven soldiers showed improved function and reduced aggression at doses of 125-300 mg, suggesting that clozapine warrants further investigation.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Severity and Cardiac Rehabilitation Utilization Following Myocardial Infarction.

PURPOSE: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with poor health behaviors and risk for cardiovascular disease, and PTSD may impair cardiovascular disease recovery. Whether PTSD severity is a barrier to cardiac rehabilitation (CR) use following a new myocardial infarction (MI) or revascularization (percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting) is uncertain. METHODS: Eligible patients were identified from Veterans Health Administration historical medical record data. Patients (N = 5170) had 1 or more PTSD diagnoses and ≥1 PTSD Checklist score between Octob

Anesthetics as emerging therapeutics for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): bridging bench and bedside.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe psychiatric disorder that develops in the months and years following exposure to severe trauma. Despite growing research, there remain gaps in understanding the full pathophysiology of PTSD, so that treatments are not universally effective, contributing to a significant public health burden. Therefore, it is necessary to explore novel therapeutic approaches. Anesthetics have recently been shown as a novel therapeutic agent with promising results in the treatment of PTSD. This review summarizes key mechanisms of anesthetics, including N-methyl-D

Pharmacotherapeutic considerations for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder during and after pregnancy: an update.

INTRODUCTION: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating mental disorder that can cause significant distress to patients and their families. It affects women disproportionately, presenting during pregnancy and the postpartum period. It often goes unrecognized and undertreated, with deleterious consequences for the mother and offspring. The first-line treatment for PTSD in pregnancy and during lactation is psychotherapy; however, when it is not feasible or effective, pharmacotherapy is preferred. AREAS COVERED: This is a narrative review discussing the efficacy and safety of diffe
