Predictive Accuracy of Alpha-Delta Ratio on Quantitative Electroencephalography for Delayed Cerebral Ischemia in Patients with Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: Meta-Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is significantly related to death and unfavorable functional outcome in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The association between alpha-delta ratio (ADR) on quantitative electroencephalography (EEG) and DCI has been reported in several previous studies, but their results are conflicting. This meta-analysis was conducted to assess the accuracy of ADR for DCI prediction in patients with aneurysmal SAH. METHODS: PubMed and Embase were systematically searched for related records. Study selection and data collection were completed by…

Electroencephalography-based signatures of cognitive resilience in individuals with stable mild cognitive impairment despite carrying a high-risk for progression to dementia.

INTRODUCTION: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) represents a transitional state between normal aging and dementia, with 30%-50% of cases progressing to dementia. However, some individuals remain stable over time, even when presenting biomarker profiles that indicate high risk. Understanding the neural mechanisms underlying this resilience is essential for developing targeted preventive strategies. METHODS: Within the Italian INTERCEPTOR project, we investigated electroencephalography (EEG) markers of resilience in MCI individuals who exhibited reduced hippocampal volume and abnormal fluorodeoxy…

Electroencephalography-Based Machine Learning for Biomarker Detection in Dyslexia and Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Comparative Review of Models, Features, and Diagnostic Utility.

To uncover neurobiological indicators related to autism spectrum disorders and developmental dyslexia, this article gives a full overview of the most recent advances in machine learning and deep learning methods based on electroencephalography. We look into methodological pipelines that include signal gathering, preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection, and interpretability procedures. We based these pipelines on 15 peer-reviewed research papers published between 2013 and 2025. Most of the research employed the 10-20 system for resting-state EEG and followed MATLAB, MNE-Python, or E…

EFFECTS OF TRANEXAMIC ACID ON NEUROPATHOLOGY, ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY, AND CEREBRAL FIBRIN DEPOSITION IN A RAT MODEL OF POLYTRAUMA WITH CONCOMITANT PENETRATING TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY.

Several studies have demonstrated the clinical utility of tranexamic acid (TXA) for use in trauma patients presenting with significant hemorrhage. Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic that inhibits plasminogen activation, and plasmin activity has been shown to mitigate blood loss and reduce all-cause mortality in the absence of adverse vascular occlusive events. Recent clinical developments indicate TXA is safe to use in patients with concomitant traumatic brain injury (TBI); however, the prehospital effects are not well understood. Importantly, TXA has been associated with seizure activity.

Relation between the date of cyst formation observable on ultrasonography and the timing of injury determined by serial electroencephalography in preterm infants with periventricular leukomalacia.

The aim of this study was to clarify the relation between the date of cyst formation and the timing of injury in preterm infants with periventricular leukomalacia in order to address the issue of whether or not we can determine the timing of injury on the basis of ultrasonographic findings. We studied 33 preterm infants with cystic periventricular leukomalacia, the gestational ages being 32 weeks or less. As 27 of them exhibited either acute or chronic stage abnormalities in the initial electroencephalogram, the timing of injury was presumed to be before or around birth. For the remaining six

A deep learning model for the detection of various dementia and MCI pathologies based on resting-state electroencephalography data: A retrospective multicentre study.

Dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) represent significant health challenges in an aging population. As the search for noninvasive, precise and accessible diagnostic methods continues, the efficacy of electroencephalography (EEG) combined with deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) in varied clinical settings remains unverified, particularly for pathologies underlying MCI such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). Addressing this gap, our study evaluates the generalizability of a DCNN trained on EEG data fr…

Determination of the central effects of the asthma prophylactic ketotifen, the bronchodilator theophylline, and both in combination: an application of quantitative electroencephalography to the study of drug interactions.

Ketotifen (Zaditen) is a new, orally active benzocycloheptathiophene derivative for use in the prophylaxis of asthma. Besides possessing anti-allergic properties, it also has H1-receptor mediated antihistaminic activity. Drugs which block H1-receptors are known to have some sedative properties. On the other hand the bronchodilator theophylline is a CNS stimulant. We investigated whether these side-effects could be reduced by concomitant administration. In a balanced-sequence crossover study, 12 healthy males received placebo, 1 mg ketotifen + 300 mg theophylline, 1 mg ketotifen + 600 mg theoph

Exploratory Analysis of Cortical-Vestibular Interaction: The Relation Between Caloric-Induced Changes in Electroencephalography Frequency Bands, the Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex, and Perception.

OBJECTIVES: Standardized assessments of vestibular function primarily focus on the structural integrity of brainstem reflexes. However, patients may report symptoms linked to disruptions in central vestibular processing and integration, mechanisms that remain poorly understood. Emerging evidence suggests that electroencephalography (EEG) can characterize the neural dynamics of central vestibular processing. This exploratory study examines the effects of caloric-induced vestibular stimulation on EEG rhythms to further elucidate neural dynamics and their relationship with lower-order (brainstem …

Diffusion Tensor Imaging Indicators of White Matter Injury Are Correlated with a Multimodal Electroencephalography-Based Biomarker in Slow Recovering, Concussed Collegiate Athletes.

There are no validated, objective diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers for sports-related concussion (SRC), which hinders evidence-based treatment for concussed athletes. While quantitative electrophysiology (EEG) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) are promising technologies for providing objective biomarkers for concussion, the degree to which they are related has not been systematically investigated in concussed athletes. This study examined whether diffusion metrics differentiated concussed athletes with prolonged recovery (n = 18) from non-conccused athletes (n = 13) and whether observed di

Autism-relevant traits interact with temporoparietal junction stimulation effects on social cognition: a high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation and electroencephalography study.

The temporoparietal junction (TPJ) is implicated in mental and emotional state attribution, processes associated with autism-relevant traits. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to the TPJ can influence social-cognitive performance. However, associations with electrophysiology and autism-relevant traits remain relatively unexamined. This study had two aims: first, exploring links between Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ) scores and social-cognitive performance; second, examining interactions between AQ scores and high-definition-tDCS (HD-tDCS) applied to the right TPJ in terms of mental
