Congenital arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of scalp are rare congenital vascular malformations. They are usually not symptomatic at birth and are often misdiagnosed as haemangiomas. To date, only two cases of symptomatic neonatal scalp AVM have been reported in literature. Pathophysiology of congenital AVM is not completely understood but genetic and acquired causes are implicated. Diagnosis and management are often difficult and require multidisciplinary approach. We report a rare case of symptomatic congenital scalp AVM in a 10-day-old neonate who was successfully managed at our unit.

Total scalp avulsion is a rare but severe injury frequently ending in hair loss, and one that can even be life-threatening. Nasal dermoid sinus cysts are the most common congenital midline nasal lesions. We describe a novel technique for the excision of a nasal dermoid cyst in a 2-year-old boy using a four hand endoscopic approach via a small scalp incision behind the hairline. The technique, although somewhat challenging, avoids a facial scar.

In this paper, the author presents 2 cases of sagittal synostosis with scaphocephaly that featured ossified scalp hematomas straddling the sagittal suture in the midparietal region. These ossified lesions were originally cephalohematomas. Collection of blood under the pericranium across the midline was possible in these cases because sagittal synostosis had obliterated the sagittal suture and its dense attachment to overlying periosteum. OBJECTIVE: To investigate quantitative EEG (qEEG) in anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN) in comparison with healthy controls.
METHODS: Resting EEG was recorded in 30 healthy females (age: 27.1+/-5.5), 16-AN females (age: 26.4+/-9.5) and 12-BN females (age: 27.0+/-6.3). Cortical EEG sources (delta, theta, alpha 1, alpha 2, beta 1, beta 2) were modeled by LORETA solutions. We report a case of thrombocytopenia caused by Kasabach-Merritt syndrome (KMS) in a 69-year-old man with a metastatic angiosarcoma of the scalp. A review of the literature revealed that only 4 cases of KMS associated with angiosarcoma have been previously reported. All these cases occurred with a solitary large lesion. This is the first case of thrombocytopenia caused by KMS associated with small metastatic lesions of angiosarcoma that developed after the primary lesion has been completely removed.

The plasma levels of ropivacaine HCl with 5 mcg/mL epinephrine were measured in 10 patients following scalp blockade for awake craniotomy.
