Standard feeding strategies with natural insemination improved fertility in repeat breeding dairy cows.

OBJECTIVE: The experiment was designed to establish suitable management strategies through the different feeding and breeding approaches on fertility improvement in the experimental repeat breeding (RB) cows. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 80 RB cows were selected for this experiment. Before grouping, all cows were deworming and then divided into four equal groups, namely Group-TF1 [traditional feeding practice and natural insemination (NI)], Group-TF2 [traditional feeding practice and Artificial insemination (AI)], Group-SF1 [standard (STD) feeding practice and NI], and Group-SF2 (STD feeding practi

Expectancy and affective response to challenging balance practice conditions in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Psychological states can influence motor performance and learning. In Parkinson's disease (PD), placebo effects or expectancies for pharmacological treatment benefits are not uncommon, but little is known about whether self-efficacy, beliefs about personal performance capabilities, may play a role in this population. To address this question, we investigated whether experimental manipulations designed to enhance self-efficacy would benefit motor performance and learning in PD. A motor learning paradigm was utilized to determine the short-term (i.e., practice) and longer-term (i.e., retention)

The effectiveness of evidence-based teaching combined with conceive-design-implement-operate in urological nursing internship teaching.

AIM: To investigate the effectiveness of integrating evidence-based teaching (EBT) with the Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) model in urology nursing clinical practice. BACKGROUND: Technological advances in urology have raised higher requirements for nursing interns regarding clinical proficiency and critical thinking. Traditional pedagogical approaches are inadequate for contemporary nursing training. EBT fosters learners' competence in evidence-based practice (EBP), whereas the CDIO framework integrates theoretical knowledge with clinical practice. Nevertheless, relevant empirical r

Assessment of preclinical learning on oral surgery using three instructional strategies.

The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate three learning methods for teaching basic oral surgical skills. Thirty predoctoral dental students without any surgical knowledge or previous surgical experience were divided into three groups (n=10 each) according to instructional strategy: Group 1, active learning; Group 2, text reading only; and Group 3, text reading and video demonstration. After instruction, the apprentices were allowed to practice incision, dissection, and suture maneuvers in a bench learning model. During the students' performance, a structured practice evaluation test t

Effect of Video-Assisted Reflective Practice on Infection Control Performance During Oral Hygiene Procedures Performed by Dental Hygienists.

PURPOSE: The dental clinic environment is highly vulnerable to cross-infection from patients' blood and oral fluids. Regular training is vital to prevent cross-contamination between healthcare providers and patients. This study evaluated the effectiveness of video-assisted reflective practice compared to traditional verbal Instruction for infection-control education. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Dental hygienists participated in the study, during which their dental calculus removal procedures were video-recorded. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups: the verbal instruction group

Effects of transcranial direct current stimulation combined with retrieval practice on semantic memory in patients with schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: The semantic processing deficit stands as a central feature of cognitive abnormalities in schizophrenia. Both transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and retrieval practice have been demonstrated as external techniques capable of ameliorating the semantic processing deficit in individuals with schizophrenia. The inquiry examines whether the combined effect of tDCS and retrieval practice, following tDCS intervention targeting the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (L-DLPFC) in patients with schizophrenia, contributes to the preservation of semantic memory in these individual

The effects of education and training on clinical practice in wound healing.

This article considers the effects of two different types of educational programme on community nurse clinical practice in venous ulceration. One group of nurses (the experimental group) attended an educational programme designed to take account of training needs and learning styles. A second group of nurses (the control group) attended a standardised educational programme. A multiple-choice question examination and Objective Structured Clinical Examination were used to measure knowledge and skills. Kolb's Learning Styles Inventory was used to measure learning styles. Findings were that experi

Audit of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: Impact of Procedure Recording on Clinical Practice.

Recorded videos of laparoscopic surgery can be used to audit surgical practice with a view to improve clinical practice and surgical outcomes. The objective was to audit our own practice by reviewing video recordings of laparoscopic cholecystectomies to improve our dissection in Calot's triangle and to prevent gall bladder perforation. We used recorded videos of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In this study initially one hundred consecutive videos were reviewed for: a) establishment of critical view of safety, b) optimization of critical view of safety by division of cystic artery before cystic

A Study on the Effect of Mental Practice Using Motor Evoked Potential-Based Neurofeedback.

This study aimed to investigate whether the effect of mental practice (motor imagery training) can be enhanced by providing neurofeedback based on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)-induced motor evoked potentials (MEP). Twenty-four healthy, right-handed subjects were enrolled in this study. The subjects were randomly allocated into two groups: a group that was given correct TMS feedback (Real-FB group) and a group that was given randomized false TMS feedback (Sham-FB group). The subjects imagined pushing the switch with just timing, when the target circle overlapped a cross at the center

Effects of hands-on breast self-examination training on knowledge, health beliefs, and BSE practice among female university students: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Breast self-examination (BSE) is a simple, low-cost method for promoting breast awareness and early detection of breast abnormalities, particularly among young women. However, lack of confidence and perceived barriers often limit regular BSE practice. Educational interventions that combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on training may enhance self-efficacy and support sustainable behavioral change. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the effects of theoretical education alone versus theoretical plus hands-on BSE training on breast cancer knowledge, health beliefs, and BSE pr

Why we still perform arthroscopy in knee osteoarthritis: a multi-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Knee arthroscopy has historically been a common treatment for knee osteoarthritis. However, multiple Randomised Controlled Trials along with a Cochrane review has led NICE to recommend that arthroscopy is not used in the vast majority of patients that have knee osteoarthritis. These recommendations have been replicated internationally. The use of arthroscopy for knee osteoarthritis has decreased; however, it is still prevalent. This study examines the factors that are perceived to influence decision-making using a theoretical framework that was developed for behaviour change resear

Patient perspectives on drug recalls in the Netherlands: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Drug recalls occur regularly with some resulting in medication switches for patients. Limited research into this topic suggests that drug recalls can lead to anxiety and unrest for patients which in turn can affect confidence in and use of medication. In this context, a better understanding of patient perceptions and communication preferences is essential to adequately handle drug recalls and ensure continued medication adherence and trust. AIM: The aim of this study was to elucidate patients' experiences, perceptions, and preferences regarding drug recalls. METHOD: This qualit

Underserved Latinas' Perceptions and Implications Around Breast Cancer Risk Assessment.

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer remains a leading cause of death among Latinas. Although breast cancer risk assessment models exist and show promise in reducing mortality, few studies have elicited women's interest in and perceptions around breast cancer risk assessment, particularly among underserved populations, like Latinas, who are susceptible to disparities in breast cancer outcomes. These disparities stem from factors such as limited access to healthcare services, lower rates of screening utilization, language barriers, and socioeconomic challenges, all of which compound their risk and hinde
