New dental findings in the median cleft facial syndrome.

BACKGROUND: The main features of median cleft facial syndrome are hypertelorism, cranium bifidum occultum, widow's peak, and midine clefting of the nose, upper lip and palate. Since this pathology was first described in 1967, many cases have been reported in the literature, but none of these reports has addressed oral anomalies in depth. CASE DESCRIPTION: The authors present the case of a female patient aged 4 years and 7 months who was diagnosed with median cleft facial syndrome. In this case, the patient had an abnormal number of teeth, owing to fusion or agenesis of teeth, supernumerary te

Double teeth with hypodontia in identical twins.

There is now considerable evidence to support the theory that heredity is the origin of this anomaly. The condition in one of the twins described here was the mirror image of the condition of the other.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Management of supernumerary teeth fused to the labial surface of permanent maxillary central incisors would require a … is reported. Due to the presence of a communication path between the root canal systems of the two fused teeth, root canal therapy was performed first for the maxillary left central incisor and the supernumerary tooth. The crown of the supernumerary tooth was then removed in a surgical setting while preserving the root to maintain the thin covering of alveol …

Hypodontia, hyperodontia, and double formation of primary teeth in Iceland. An epidemiological study.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of hypodontia, hyperodontia, and double formation of primary teeth in Icelandic children in the dental stage DS 02 (primary dentition complete). The study group comprised 927 children (498 boys and 429 girls). This was about 9% of all children aged 0-83 months in Reykjavik at the time of the registration of these anomalies, during the winter of 1978-1979. The children included those presenting for regular examinations in two health centers, children from three kindergartens, and seven pre-school classes from two schools in Reykjavik. Of the

[Frequency of the developmental disturbances of tooth structure].

In permanent and deciduous dentitions, the frequency of congenitally missing teeth, supernumerary teeth, conical teeth, fused teeth, germinate teeth, abnormal tubercles (basal ridge of incisor or canine, central cusps of molars, Carabelli's cusp, protostylid, and para-molar tubercles), and enamel hypoplasia (white spots, pigmentation, and enamel defects) were surveyed. Furthermore, mesio-distal and bucco-lingual dimensions of the crowns were measured and the relationship between developmental disturbances of dental hard tissue and tooth size was examined. For the deciduous dentition, the frequ…

Concomitant hypo-hyperdontia: report of two cases.

Concomitant hypo-hyperdontia is a rare condition of coexisting missing teeth and supernumerary teeth in the same subject. Its etiology is still not exactly known. Permanent dentition is usually affected. Presented here are two uncommon cases of bimaxillary concomitant hypo-hyperdontia during the mixed dentition period. Early diagnosis of the condition and multidisciplinary approach for management of such cases is recommended.

The treatment of a fusion between the maxillary central incisor and supernumerary tooth: report of a case.

Fusion has been described as a developmental anomaly characterized by the union of two adjacent teeth. Supernumerary teeth develop as a consequence of the proliferation of epithelial cells from dental lamina. In this paper a fusion between maxillary central incisor and a supernumerary tooth which required endodontic, surgical and periodontal treatment is presented.

Two cases with supernumerary teeth in lower incisor region.

Abnormalities in number of teeth are occasionally noted in clinical cases. Many theories have been proposed as regards the causes of the occurrence of supernumerary teeth, including atavism theory, mechanical tooth germ separation theory, tissue induction theory, and dental laminar morphological disturbance theory. However, none of these theories alone offers a sufficient explanation for this phenomenon. The incidence of supernumerary permanent teeth is approximately 1-3%. These are the maxillary anterior teeth, the maxillary molars, and the maxillo-mandibular premolars in terms of descending

Dental anomalies in the primary dentition: distribution and correlation with the permanent dentition.

The study consisted of analysis of all cases of anomalies in the primary dentition that were seen or treated by the authors in the Department of Children's Dentistry and Orthodontics. A total of 79 occurrences of anomalies was seen in 65 children. The anomalies detected were double teeth, hypodontia and supernumerary teeth. Radiographic examinations of the affected children showed that over 60% of the cases with anomalies in the primary dentition are associated with anomalies of the succadeneous permanent dentition. All subjects with hypodontia of the primary dentition presented with hypodonti

Unusual presentation of mandibular extraoral sinus in a fourteen year old girl: a case report.

A case of fourteen year old healthy girl with complaint of a discharging sinus on the lower right side of face is reported. All teeth were vital and there was no evidence of periodontitis. There was no history of extraction of a tooth. Total leucocyte count, differential leucocyte count, fasting blood sugar, chest x-ray and routine urine examination were within normal limits. Actinomycosis and scrofuloderma which simulate such a condition were ruled out by culture study. The intraoral periapical x-ray of mandibular molar showed questionable periapical changes at the time of presentation. But d

Identification of Root Canal Morphology in Fused-rooted Mandibular Second Molars From X-ray Images Based on Deep Learning.

INTRODUCTION: Understanding the intricate anatomical morphology of fused-rooted mandibular second molars (MSMs) is essential for root canal treatment. The present study utilized a deep learning approach to identify the three-dimensional root canal morphology of MSMs from two-dimensional X-ray images. METHODS: A total of 271 fused-rooted MSMs were included in the study. Micro-computed tomography reconstruction images and two-dimensional X-ray projection images were obtained. The ground truth of three-dimensional root canal morphology was determined through micro-computed tomography images, whi

Multidisciplinary treatment of "twinned" permanent teeth: two case reports.

Twinned teeth usually appear in the anterior region of the dental arch. Besides orthodontic malocclusions, such as protrusion, crowding, or diastema, they also cause esthetic problems. Different treatment methods can be used according to the requirements of the situation. This article reports multidisciplinary treatment of 2 patients whose maxillary central teeth were twinned with supernumerary incisors. The twinned tooth was reshaped following endodontic treatment in 1 of the patients and orthodontic treatment was performed with edgewise mechanics. In the second case, however, it was determin
