Silver enriched silver phosphate microcubes as an efficient recyclable SERS substrate for the detection of heavy metal ions.

A rapid, cost-effective and accurate detection of heavy metal ions is crucial for human health monitoring and environmental protection. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has become a reliable method due to its outstanding performance for the identification of contaminants. In this paper, silver phosphate microcubes (Ag3PO4) were fabricated using two different precipitation methods for ultrasensitive SERS detection of heavy metal ions. The use of an organic linker (BPy) with Ag3PO4 enabled the immobilization of Hg2+ and Pb2+ ions. The formation of Ag3PO4 was confirmed by XRD, UV-DRS, F

Functionalized CdS quantum dots-based luminescence probe for detection of heavy and transition metal ions in aqueous solution.

Strong luminescence CdS quantum dots (QDs) have been prepared and modified with l-cysteine by a facile seeds-assistant technique in water. They are water-soluble and highly stable in aqueous solution. CdS QDs evaluated as a luminescence probe for heavy and transition metal (HTM) ions in aqueous solution was systematically studied. Five HTM ions such as silver(I) ion, copper(II) ion, mercury(II) ion, cobalt(II) ion, and nickel(II) ion significantly influence the photophysics of the emission from the functionalized CdS QDs. Experiment results showed that the fluorescence emission from CdS QDs wa

Transport mechanism and control technology of heavy metal ions in gangue backfill materials in short-wall block backfill mining.

Short-wall block backfill mining can effectively control the movement of overlying strata, prevent water loss and utilize waste gangue materials. However, heavy metal ions (HMI) of gangue backfill materials in the mined-out area can be released and transported to the underlying aquifer, causing pollution of water resources in the mine. Accordingly, with short-wall block backfill mining technology, this study analyzed the sensitivity of gangue backfill materials to the environment. The pollution mechanism of gangue backfill materials to water resources was revealed, and the transport rules of H

Ratiometric fluorescent nanoprobes based on carbon dots and multicolor CdTe quantum dots for multiplexed determination of heavy metal ions.

Owing to the high risk to human and environmental health, heavy metal pollution has become a global problem. Rapid, accurate and multiplexed determination of heavy metal ions is critical. In this work, we reported a promising approach to designing ratiometric fluorescent nanoprobes for multiplexed determination of Hg2+, Cu2+, and Ag+ ions. The nanoprobes (CDs-QDx) were designed by mixing the CDs and multicolor CdTe QDs without the involvement of recognition elements. The CDs were insensitive to heavy metal ions while CdTe QDs showed the size-dependent fluorescence response to different heavy m

Physicochemical Properties of α‑Pinene in Water Ice Analogs under Energetic Heavy-Ion Irradiation.

Studying the physicochemical properties of ice in astronomical environments is crucial to understanding the chemical processes involved in cosmic events such as comet and planet formation. The physical characteristics and chemical evolution on the surfaces of cosmic objects such as comets or interstellar grains offer key insights into these processes. This study focuses on α-pinene, a carbon- and hydrogen-rich molecule, which serves as a model for investigating radical-driven synthesis of more complex molecules under space-like conditions. It also provides a useful analogy for complex terrestr

Heavy Ion Radiation Directly Induced the Shift of Oral Microbiota and Increased the Cariogenicity of Streptococcus mutans.

Radiation caries is one of the most common complications of head and neck radiotherapy. A shift in the oral microbiota is the main factor of radiation caries. A new form of biosafe radiation, heavy ion radiation, is increasingly being applied in clinical treatment due to its superior depth-dose distribution and biological effects. However, how heavy ion radiation directly impacts the oral microbiota and the progress of radiation caries are unknown. Here, unstimulated saliva samples from both healthy and caries volunteers and caries-related bacteria were directly exposed to therapeutic doses of
