PURPOSE: To compare the binocular vision and oculomotor function between sports-concussed athletes and aged-matched controls.
METHODS: Thirty mild concussed athletes were recruited and compared with aged-matched controls. All the participants underwent a comprehensive ocular assessment followed by an oculomotor assessment which included tests for accommodation, vergence, eye movements, and reading parameters.
RESULTS: Three categories of oculomotor-based deficits were found: convergence insufficiency (40%), accommodative insufficiency (25%), and oculomotor-based reading dysfunctions (20%). A

Patients with convergence insufficiency (CI) are often symptomatic during activities that require near fixation, such as reading. Indeed, CI has been associated with reading impairment and poor academic performance. However, these associations do not prove a causal relationship between these conditions. The current evidence regarding the relationship between CI and its treatment, reading ability, and academic performance is discussed.

INTRODUCTION: Whipple's disease (WhD) is a rare multisystemic infection caused by Tropheryma whipplei, with central nervous system (CNS) involvement seen in up to 50% of cases. Neurological symptoms may precede systemic features or occur in isolation. Movement disorders (MDs) and oculomotor abnormalities, especially oculomasticatory myorhythmia (OMM) and oculofacioskeletal myorhythmia (OFSM), are of a high diagnostic importance but remain underrecognized. This systematic review aims to update our understanding of MDs in CNS-WhD, building on a 2018 review.
METHODS: A systematic search of MEDLI

The diagnosis of ocular motor disorders and the different forms of a nystagmus is based on a systematic clinical examination of all types of eye movements: eye position, spontaneous nystagmus, range of eye movements, smooth pursuit, saccades, gaze-holding function, vergence, optokinetic nystagmus, as well as testing of the function of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and visual fixation suppression of the VOR. Relevant anatomical structures are the midbrain, pons, medulla, cerebellum, and cortex. There is a simple clinical rule: vertical and torsional eye movements are generated in the midbra

There is no standard meaning of the term "vision therapy", and for this reason it is often a controversial topic between some members of the ophthalmic and optometric community. Most pediatric ophthalmologists avoid using the term because it is nonspecific. Convergence Insufficiency (CI) is a binocular visual problem that causes problems and symptoms with near fixation. There is consensus among eye care professionals that convergence therapy is effective in treating CI. Convergence therapy is not effective in treating learning disabilities, but can sometimes relieve symptoms that might be a ba

Inverse globe retraction syndrome is a rare ocular motility disorder characterized by limited abduction, with globe retraction and up- or downshoots on attempted abduction, differentiating it from globe retraction due to Duane retraction syndrome, seen on attempted adduction. It can be congenital or acquired. We report the case of a 3-year-old girl who presented with classical features of inverse globe retraction syndrome secondary to an underlying orbital tumor involving the medial rectus muscle. Incisional biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of a leiomyoma. At 10 months' follow-up, vision, ocular

Neuro-ophthalmology is an interdisciplinary that covers neurology and ophthalmology. Neuro-ophthalmology involves not only visual afferent system disorders but also visual efferent system disorders. We have recognized that any disturbance in afferent system may result in vision decrease or loss. However, our understanding of visual efferent system disorders including strabismus, diplopia, ocular motility and abnormal head posture is incomplete. More attentions should be paid to ocular motor pathways disorders in neuro-ophthalmology including clinical characteristics, localization of potential

Ocular misalignment and ophthalmoparesis result in the symptom of binocular diplopia. In the evaluation of diplopia, localization of the ocular motility disorder is the main objective. This requires a systematic approach and knowledge of the ocular motor pathways and actions of the extraocular muscles. This article reviews the components of the ocular motor pathway and presents helpful tools for localization and common sources of error in the assessment of ophthalmoparesis.

BACKGROUND: Accommodation and Vergence disorder are diverse visual anomalies which can interfere with a child's school performance and impair one's ability to function efficiently. Its association with refractive error and its intervention were studied less in Indian myopia children; hence, there is a need for research in such setting.
METHOD: One hundred and fifty Indian adolescents aged 10 to 17 years were divided into three refractive error groups (high, moderate, and low myopia). Baseline vision examination and a comprehensive binocular vision assessment were performed on all eligible ado

PURPOSE: This article considers vertical misalignment and torsion of the eyes that arise from disorders of vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) pathways.
RECENT FINDINGS: Infarction of the nodulus is one of the causes of skew deviation, a vertical strabismus accompanied by torsion of the eyes and tilt of the subjective visual vertical. Vertical components of childhood strabismus may arise from dysgenesis of vestibular projections in the brainstem. If vertical misalignment decreases greatly in the supine position compared to the erect poison one may conclude that skew deviation rather than a fourth n
