This study was to determine the shear bond strengths of Ni-Cr alloy to Ni-Cr alloy (Group I), Ni-Cr alloy to enamel (Group II), and Ni-Cr alloy to dentin (Group III) using Imperva Dual, DC Metabond, All-Bond, Geristore, and Panavia. All bonded specimens were thermocycled 2000 x (5 degrees C-55 degrees C) after 24 hours and subjected to shear bond testing on a Universal Instron Testing Machine. In all groups of the study, Imperva Dual and CB Metabond had significantly (p < .05) higher bond values than Panavia.

The study covered 1334 workers employed in 12 cement factories located in southern Italy. In a cohort study of the incidence of cancer and mortality among 7996 men and 584 women employed in the Danish asbestos cement industry between 1928 and 1984 over 99% were traced. Chrysotile asbestos was the only fibre type used until 1946, when amosite and (in 1952) crocidolite were also introduced. Chrysotile constituted 89%, amosite 10%, and crocidolite 1% of the asbestos used. During the first 25 years of manufacture the exposure levels were high, especially in areas where the asbestos was handled dry. We report on 14 patients with instability of the cervical spine secondary to rheumatoid arthritis treated by fusion using a combination of traditional bone grafting techniques and methylmethacrylate bone cement. Successful fusion was achieved in all cases with few complications. The high infection rate reported by other authors was avoided by reducing the bulk of the cement mass and the use of antibiotic impregnated cement. We recommend this method of fusion to all orthopaedic surgeons involved in the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

The authors report a case of total hip replacement followed by early infection. The prosthesis was removed after several months but despite this a fistula persisted. Four years later, signs of bladder infection appeared. The patient was operated on and a piece of cement was found inside the bladder and removed. The relationship between the infection and the migration of cement into the bladder is discussed. It was recalled that nay intrapelvic protrusion of cement should be avoided in the course of a total hip replacement.

Following dorsal laminectomies (L2-L3), the resultant spinal instabilities were stabilized by placing four Steinmann pins and embedding them in acrylic bone cement. The cement was molded about the instability and incorporated the pins and articular process. Aqueous suspensions of asbestos cement powder injected experimentally into the peritoneal cavity of mice act as a fibrogenic agent, as do chrysotile asbestos or chrysotile asbestos-containing soil samples. The fibrotic nodules caused by the dust resemble morphologically silicosis granulomas.
