Surgical procedure for intraamnionic inoculation of the bovine fetus.

A surgical procedure that ensures intraamnionic inoculation of the bovine fetus is described. Right flank surgical operation was performed, using a "grid"-type entry though the abdominal muscles. A portion of the uterus containing 1 fetal leg was presented for inoculating the test material between the hooves. The procedure was rapid and simple to do and was safe for both the dam and the fetus.

Increased Joint Mobility Is Associated With Impaired Transversus Abdominis Contraction.

Mitchell, UH, Owen, PJ, Rantalainen, T, and Belavý, DL. Increased joint mobility is associated with impaired transversus abdominis contraction. J Strength Cond Res 36(9): 2472-2478, 2022-Increased joint mobility is a risk factor for joint injury, but muscle function may be able to compensate for it. Current evidence suggests reduced force production capacity in people with hypermobility. However, little is known about the lumbar spine. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to assess whether there was a link between joint mobility and transverse abdominis and multifidus muscles contract

Primary lumbar hydatid cyst: a case report.

A five-year-old male patient presented with swelling in the lumbar region that had persisted for two weeks. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a cystic lesion inside his right back muscles. Intra-abdominal organs within the site of inspection were normal. The lumbar region was explored, and a 3x4x5 cm hydatid cyst was detected inside the latissimus dorsi muscles. The cyst was incised and the germinative membrane was removed. Albendazole was used for three months after surgery to prevent recurrences. No problem was detected in a five-year follow-up period. Primary hydatid c

The occurrence of Strongyloides ratti in the tissues of mice after percutaneous infection.

The migration of infective larvae of Strongyloides ratti has been examined in C57Bl/6 mice after percutaneous infection of the anterior abdominal wall. Lateral migration of larvae through the skin and subcutaneous tissues was not seen. Large numbers of larvae were recovered from the muscles between 2 and 24 hours after infection and larvae were seen in the cerebrospinal fluid 24 and 48 hours after infection. Insignificant numbers of larvae were seen in the blood, serosal cavities, liver, spleen, kidneys, brain or nasopharynx. Larvae arrived in the lungs between 24 and 72 hours after infection

[Harpoon scrotal injury: unusual accident in submarine fishing].

The authors report a case of transfixing injury of the scrotum while diving. The patient was seen one hour after the accident. The harpoon traversed the right side of the scrotum from below upwards. Emergency surgical exploration only revealed effraction of the sinus of the epididymis and the abdominal muscles. The overall risk for fertility was suggested in view of a possible lesion of the epididymal canal.

Ultrasound identification of absent rectus abdominis muscle after omphalocele repair altered regional anesthesia strategy in pediatric cardiac surgery: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Previous abdominal wall repair may alter the rectus abdominis muscle structure and render rectus sheath block (RSB) infeasible in pediatric cardiac surgery. CASE PRESENTATION: A 5-year-old boy with a history of siloplasty and omphalocele repair underwent right ventricle-to-pulmonary artery conduit replacement. Deep parasternal intercostal plane block and RSB had been planned. However, ultrasound pre-scanning failed to identify the rectus abdominis muscle in the upper abdomen, and the liver was visualized immediately beneath the abdominal wall. Preoperative computed tomography conf

Multiple benign metastasizing leiomyomas in the pelvic lymph nodes and biceps muscle: report of a case.

A 47-year-old woman with an earlier history of uterine leiomyoma suffered from multiple recurrent tumors in the retroperitoneal lymph nodes and biceps muscle of the right upper arm. The woman with a right lower abdominal tumor was referred to our hospital. An abdominal computed tomography scan revealed two round nodules with well-defined margins in the retroperitoneum in the pelvis, and echography revealed a similar nodule in the biceps of the right upper arm. A biopsy of the abdominal retroperitoneal tumor demonstrated benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML). An extirpation of the abdominal tumo

Rehabilitating psoas tendonitis: a case report.

This case report describes the examination and physical therapy intervention for a woman with anterior hip pain whose medical diagnosis following magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was bilateral labral tears and psoas tendinitis. Her physical therapy evaluation revealed findings consistent with psoas tendonitis. Utilizing theories of neuromuscular patterning and knowledge of normal muscle function, the patient was successfully treated in physical therapy following six physical therapy sessions, once a week for 6 weeks. The patient was found to have an overactive psoas muscle, as indicated by hip

Microvascular reconstruction for close-range gunshot injuries to the distal forearm.

Three patients with compound defects in the distal forearm resulting from close-range gunshot injuries were treated with a free microvascular composite groin flap. The composite flap, which consisted of groin skin, the iliac crest, and abdominal muscles, was used to cover the exposed nerves, tendons, and vessels in one stage. The iliac crest replaced the segmental radial and ulnar defects, and the attached muscles were placed deep to the tendons to provide a gliding surface and to prevent adhesions to the bone. "Sandwiching" the damaged nerves and tendons between highly vascular soft tissue ha…

Surface electromyographic activity of trunk muscles during trunk control exercises for people after stroke; effect of a mobile and stable seat for rehabilitation.

The aim of this study was to explore differences in trunk muscle activity on a stable and mobile seat for people after stroke and healthy participants. Trunk control exercises are known to have a beneficial effect on trunk control, balance, and mobility after stroke. The effect of such exercises could be enhanced by the use of a mobile seat to provide further training stimuli. However, little research on the musculoskeletal effects of trunk training on mobile seats has been carried out. On a stable and a mobile seat, thirteen people after stroke and fifteen healthy participants performed two s

[Morbidity of the abdominal wall after breast reconstruction and elective abdominoplasty].

INTRODUCTION: The free TRAM flap is commonly used in breast reconstruction after mastectomy. Donor-site morbidity of the abdominal wall is usually determined by scars, loss of sensation and functional restrictions. Similar aesthetic and functional problems are described for patients after elective abdominoplasty. Is morbidity of the abdominal wall after breast reconstruction based on muscle lesions or on the trauma from operation? PATIENTS AND METHODS: 21 patients after breast reconstruction and 20 patients after elective abdominoplasty were evaluated concerning the aesthetic results, scars a

Traumatic lumbar hernia: CT diagnosis.

A lumbar hernia usually involves protrusion of extraperitoneal fat or bowel through an area of weakness in the posterolateral abdominal wall bounded superiorly by the 12th rib, inferiorly by the iliac crest, posteriorly by the erector spinae muscle, and anteriorly by the posterior border of the external oblique muscle. Most are due to an acquired nontraumatic or congenital cause. Acute blunt abdominal trauma is a rare cause of lumbar hernia; to our knowledge, the CT diagnosis of this variety has not been reported. Since 1985, approximately 850 patients have undergone emergent abdominal CT for

Characterization of the human diaphragm muscle with respect to the phrenic nerve motor points for diaphragmatic pacing.

Diaphragm pacing from laparoscopically placed electrodes is an alternative to conventional phrenic pacers that use electrodes placed in direct contact with the nerve in the neck or chest. The challenge with the laparoscopic approach is determining where to implant the electrodes, as the phrenic nerves are not visible from the abdomen. The objective of this study was to locate the phrenic nerve "motor points" in the human diaphragm muscle from an abdominal perspective. Twenty-five cadavers were examined by excising the diaphragm muscle and assessing for the thickness of the muscle, the motor po

Congenital cranial ventral abdominal hernia, peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia and sternal cleft in a 4-year-old multiparous pregnant queen.

CASE SUMMARY: Cranial ventral midline hernias, most often congenital, can be associated with other congenital abnormalities, such as sternal, diaphragmatic or cardiac malformations. A 4-year-old multiparous queen with a substernal hernia was admitted for evaluation of a mammary mass. During CT examination, a bifid sternum, the abdominal hernia containing the intestines, spleen, omentum, three fetuses, a mammary mass and an incidental peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia were identified. Surgery consisted of a standard ovariohysterectomy and repair of the peritoneopericardial hernia. Prima

Abdominal wall regenerative medicine for a large defect using tissue engineering: an experimental study.

PURPOSE: Treatment for a large abdominal wall defect remains challenging. The aim of this study was to optimize tissue engineering therapy of muscle constructs using a rat model. METHODS: Experimental abdominal wall defects were created in Wister rats. The animal model was divided into three groups: collagen sponge (CS), hybrid scaffold (HS) and hybrid scaffold containing bone marrow liquid (HSBM). Hybrid scaffolds comprised collagen sponge and poly L-lactide (PLLA) sheets. Abdominal wall defects were covered by three kinds of sheets. Thereafter, the bone marrow liquid was spread onto the she

The course and surgical management of a complex, giant omphalocele in a term neonate.

An omphalocele is an abdominal wall defect characterized by absent abdominal muscles, fascia, and skin. Omphaloceles are frequently associated with chromosomal anomalies (∼50% risk) and malformations, as well as an increased risk of feeding difficulties, failure to thrive, reflux, and bowel obstruction. Management of omphaloceles will inevitably involve surgical closure of the defect, with a variety of potential approaches depending on the institution, defect size, and the associated findings. This case report discusses the outcomes of the multimodal surgical approach used to repair a prenatal…

Unusual Metachronous Renal Pelvis and Colon Metastases in a Patient with Endometrial Cancer: A Case Report.

Endometrial cancer commonly metastasizes to the pelvic and para-aortic lymph nodes, vagina, peritoneum, and lungs. Unusual sites of metastasis include the bone, brain, abdominal wall, muscles, and intra-abdominal organs. To our knowledge, there have been no documented cases of synchronous or metachronous metastasis of endometrial cancer to the renal pelvis or colon. Metastatic tumors in the renal pelvis and colon indicate nonspecific radiological findings, making them difficult to distinguish from primary tumors. We describe a case of a 55-year-old female previously treated for endometrial can
