Identification of Antidiabetic Metabolites from Paederia foetida L. Twigs by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry-Based Metabolomics and Molecular Docking Study.

Paederia foetida L. (Rubiaceae) is a climber which is widely distributed in Asian countries including Malaysia. The plant is traditionally used to treat various diseases including diabetes. This study is to evaluate the enzymatic inhibition activity of Paederia foetida twigs extracts and to identify the metabolites responsible for the bioactivity by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) metabolomics profiling. Three different twig extracts, namely, hexane (PFH), chloroform (PFC), and methanol (PFM), were submerged for their α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition potential in 5 replicate

Larvicidal activity of Ricinus communis extract against mosquitoes.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Vector control strategies play significant role in reducing the transmission of malaria, dengue and other vector-borne diseases. The control of vector population using synthetic insecticides has resulted in development of insecticide resistance and negative effects on humans and environment. The present investigation evaluated the larvicidal potential of methanol, dichloromethane and hexane extracts of leaves and seeds of Ricinus communis (castor) plant against the early IV instar larvae of the dengue vector, Aedes aegypti, and malaria vector, Anopheles culicifacies.

Biological activity of Juglans regia leaf extract and in silico evaluation of its phytochemicals against Plasmodium berghei target proteins.

Parasitic infections remain a major global health challenge, with helminthiasis causing significant morbidity and economic losses. Limitations of synthetic anthelmintics, such as resistance and toxicity, have encouraged the search for natural plant-based alternatives. Juglans regia (walnut) leaves are rich in bioactive phytochemicals with potential antiparasitic effects. This study aimed to evaluate the anthelmintic efficacy of the methanolic leaf extract of J. regia (JRLE) against Eisenia fetida and to assess, through molecular docking, the potential interactions of its phytochemicals with se

Broad-Spectrum Hepatoprotection by Pteropyrum scoparium Extract Against Multi-Pesticide Oxidative Stress in Rats.

Chronic exposure to even low levels of pesticides is a serious public health issue, mainly due to the role of oxidative stress in damaging the liver and promoting cancer. This has driven interest in finding natural, plant-based antioxidants that can counteract this kind of chemical injury. In this study, we tested whether a methanol extract from the leaves of Pteropyrum scoparium (PSE) could protect the liver against oxidative harm caused by four common pesticides: acetochlor, deltamethrin, thiamethoxam, and rotenone. Chemical analysis showed that the extract contains high levels of phenolics

Comprehensive molecular docking and antifungal activity analysis of Moringa extracts targeting Candida auris dihydrofolate reductase (8CRH).

Candida auris is an emerging multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen posing serious global healthcare challenges due to its persistence, frequent misidentification, and resistance to all major antifungal drugs. This study aimed to explore natural therapeutic alternatives by investigating the antifungal and molecular properties of Moringa peregrina and Moringa oleifera leaf extracts. Ethanolic and aqueous extracts of both Moringa species were prepared and evaluated against C. auris and other Candida species (Candida spp.) using zone of inhibition (ZI), minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and mi

Network pharmacology-guided lipidomics and molecular docking reveals the involvement of sphingolipid metabolism and HIF-1 signaling in Xiaoyao San's blood-nourishing mechanism against depression.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Depression is a common psychiatric disorder and has become a growing public health issue. In the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinic, blood deficiency is a common syndrome pattern in depression. Xiaoyao San (XYS), a classic formula with the property of nourishing blood, is widely used to treat depression. However, how the blood-nourishing action of XYS contributes to its antidepressant efficacy and what its underlying mechanisms are remain unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: The current study aimed to investigate the mechanism by which XYS exerts its antidepressan

Comprehensive phytochemical profiling of bioactive compounds from Barleria prattensis for their antioxidant and cytotoxic capacity and its characterization using GC-MS.

Barleria prattensis Santapau has been traditionally used for its medicinal properties, particularly for its antimicrobial and antioxidant benefits. This study evaluates its phytochemical composition, total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), antioxidant activity, and anticancer potential. Phytochemical screening was conducted using standard qualitative assays, while TPC and TFC were quantified using the Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride methods, respectively. The TPC values for methanol (MeOH), chloroform (CHCl3), and petroleum ether (PE) extracts were 72.9, 37.3, and 16
