Descemet's membrane detachment (DMD) is an uncommon corneal pathology that typically occurs following intraocular surgeries or direct ocular trauma. Congenital or birth trauma-related DMD is rare and often remains undiagnosed in asymptomatic individuals. Longstanding cases may develop fibrous bridging or retrocorneal membrane formation, making diagnosis challenging without advanced imaging. We report the case of a 32-year-old asymptomatic male who presented for a routine ophthalmic evaluation. Slit-lamp examination of the right eye revealed a localized inferotemporal corneal opacity with subtl

PRÉCIS: This study showed that the XEN patency should be verified by OCT imaging in cases of encapsulated blebs. Although fibrosis plays the … all eyes increased on average at 28.3 days from the surgery, with a mean value of 39.66 mm Hg. The slit lamp examination showed a cystic bleb. The AS-OCT imaging confirmed the previous finding and revealed either a partial or total occlusion of the stent internal ostium. A Nd:YAG laser, in proximity to the ostium, was performed to resolve the obstruction. …

Anterior capsular contraction syndrome is an uncommon but well-known complication associated with continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis performed during cataract surgery. It remains asymptomatic unless the constriction progresses to involve the visual axis or causes late intraocular lens-related complications. A male patient in his 50s presented with severely decreased vision in his right eye 2 years after uneventful cataract surgery. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy revealed capsular phimosis and a dense, central, fibrous plaque with total occlusion of the anterior capsulorhexis opening. Neodymium-dope

Spondyloocular syndrome (SOS) is a rare autosomal-recessive disorder. Since 2015, SOS has been linked to mutations in xylosyltransferase II (XYLT2) locus. Phenotypic features could affect multiple systems, such as sight, hearing, or bones. Herein, we report a case of SOS with multiple bone fractures without trauma, bilateral cataracts, and sensorineural hearing loss. Mutations in XYLT2 gene were detected, and the diagnosis of SOS was made. At the age of 8, the patient presented with progressive vision loss. Slit-lamp examination revealed inferior steepening, apical scarring, and thinning of th

We report the case of a patient who received conjunctival tattooing for cosmetic purposes with associated complications. A 28-year-old male experienced severe ocular pain after undergoing conjunctival tattooing. Slit-lamp examination revealed blue deposits over the conjunctiva in association with intense conjunctival edema and a 4+ anterior chamber cellular reaction. The patient underwent clinical treatments to control ocular inflammation. Two months after the injury, the patient was still in follow-up to ensure that any further complications were managed and documented. This unusual case of c

We herein report two cases of occult Descemet's membrane detachment (DMD) after phacoemulsification surgery, which initially presented as persistent corneal edema and had been considered as pseudophakic bullous keratopathy. The patients were thus scheduled to receive corneal transplantation. For Case 1, DMD was incidentally detected by slit-lamp examination 2 months postoperatively, only when part of the cornea became clearer. For Case 2, anterior segment optical coherence tomography demonstrated extensive DMD, which had lasted 5 months after the operation. DMDs in both patients had been succe

PURPOSE: We report a Korean case of concomitant keratoconus and granular corneal dystrophy type II.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 29-year-old man visited our clinic for a routine ocular check-up. Slit-lamp examination revealed a few well-circumscribed, greyish-white, discrete granular opacities in the central corneal stromae of both eyes. Direct sequencing of exon 4 of the BIGH3 gene revealed a heterozygous transversion from G to A in the second-nucleotide position of codon 124. In addition, a Fleischer ring and Vogt's striae were evident in the cornea. The corneal topography was suggesti

Monofilaments of the absorbable synthetic thread Dexon made from PGA have properties similar to nylon 10-0. Experiments with intra-lamellar implantation of the monofilament in rabbit corneas showed the same good material tolerance as nylon 10-0. Perforating corneal wounds were closed with interrupted and running sutures from PGA monofilaments, respectively. One week post-operatively, increased intraocular pressure caused a wound rupture but not a thread rupture. Two weeks post-operatively an increased intraocular pressure of more than 300 mm Hg could no longer rupture the wound. Slit lamp and …
