BACKGROUND: Compared with traditional diagnostic methods (TDMs), rapid diagnostic methods for infectious diseases (IDs) are urgently needed. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has emerged as a promising diagnostic technology for clinical infections.
METHODS: This retrospective observational study was performed at a tertiary hospital in China between May 2019 and August 2022. The chi-square test was used to compare the sensitivity and specificity of mNGS and TDMs. We also performed a subgroup analysis of the different pathogens and samples.

This is a case of coccidioidomycosis in a dog, examined for vomiting and labored breathing. Physical examination and thoracic and abdominal imaging revealed pleural and peritoneal effusions, both of which exhibited neutrophilic inflammation with a substantial eosinophilic component. The dog had positive IgM and IgG coccidioidomycosis titers at initial evaluation. The eosinophilic component of the inflammation was attributed to coccidioidomycosis. OBJECTIVE. The objective of this article is to define the clinical significance of asymmetric ductal ectasia by a review of literature and to describe the imaging findings. CONCLUSION. Asymmetric ductal ectasia has a significant risk for malignancy and high-risk lesions. The findings on conventional imaging may be subtle and easily overlooked. Asymmetric ductal ectasia should be included in the search pattern during image interpretation. Tissue sampling is usually warranted. Ultrasound is critical in identifying ductal abnormalities to guide biopsy.

PURPOSE: To report supraciliochoroidal effusion after trabeculectomy with the use of ultrasound biomicroscopy.
METHODS: In a prospective study, 28 eyes of 19 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma that underwent trabeculectomy were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively by ultrasound biomicroscopy.
RESULTS: Four eyes showed a hypoechogenic suprachoroidal space that remained stable for 6 months postoperatively. These four eyes had intraocular pressures of 11 mm Hg or less on no antiglaucoma medications and without signs of choroidal detachment.
