PURPOSE: No theory or method currently exists to preoperatively predict the optimal position of an intracorneal implant for the treatment of keratoconus, or a surgical system or technique to adjust and optimize the position of the implant after its implantation. A surgical technique for adjusting the position of the implant inside the cornea is presented, and by adjusting the position of the implant after its insertion into a corneal pocket, the surgical results in keratoconus treatment may be improved.

PURPOSE: To examine corneal responses to elevated intraocular pressure (IOP).
METHODS: For a sample of 10 normal subjects, noncontact tonometry was used to measure IOP elevations in response to scleral indentation from a standardized ophthalmodynamometer (ODM) force. Using the same ODM force, corneal topography was assessed for the same controls and a sample of 10 subjects with keratoconus (KC). Keratoconus is a disease that causes variable degrees of vision loss. Some patients need to undergo corneal transplantation due to disease severity. The development of keratoconus has been strongly associated to allergic and dermatologic diseases such as atopic dermatitis. Keratoconus is a poorly diagnosed condition and as it is of utmost importance to identify it at an early stage, we present three cases of patients with the disease with multidisciplinary management. We emphasize the importance of referring these patients for their subsequent evaluation by specialists.
