PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To provide a review of the recent literature on the management of residual refractive error after cataract surgery.
RECENT FINDINGS: Laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is the most accurate procedure to correct residual refractive error after cataract surgery. Lens-based procedures, such as intraocular lens (IOL) exchange or piggyback lens implantation, are also possible alternatives in cases with extreme ametropia, corneal abnormalities, or in situations where excimer laser is not available. In this review, we found that Piggyback IOL were safer and more accurate than IOL

The laser sheath uses optical fibers, delivering pulsed ultraviolet excimer laser light, to vaporize fibrotic tissue binding intravenous cardiac leads to the vein or heart wall during lead extraction from the implant vein. The total investigational experience with laser sheaths is reported. During the period from October 1995 to December 1999, 2,561 pacing and defibrillator leads were treated in 1,684 patients at 89 sites in the United States with three sizes of laser sheath. Endpoints were complete removal of the lead, partial removal (leaving the tip behind), or failure (abandoning the lead,

Small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) is a stromal based, flapless, minimally invasive form of laser vision correction for the treatment of myopia and myopic astigmatism. SMILE surgery is a more technical procedure compared with other refractive surgeries and generally has a longer skill mastery acquisition period. Thus far, no new stabilization devices or techniques have been proposed. To rectify this, a new distal corneal countertraction device for SMILE surgery, the Monson SMILE Fixation Device, is introduced. This device provides reliable corneal and globe stabilization during delami

INTRODUCTION: Higher preoperative myopic astigmatism is associated with a higher probability of retreatment due to patient dissatisfaction as a result of residual cylindrical error. Nonetheless, retreatment is safe and the final clinical results are comparable to those of patients with lower preoperative astigmatism who were satisfied with the primary treatment. Our purpose is to compare the efficacy and safety of femtosecond LASIK (FS-LASIK) for the refractive correction of patients with low (< 1.5 Diopters (D) versus high (≥ 1.5 D) myopic astigmatism.
METHODS: Retrospective observational st

Since the introduction of femtosecond laser (FS) systems for corneal flap creation in laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis there have been numerous applications for FS laser in corneal surgery. This manuscript details the utility of FS lasers in corneal surgical procedures including refractive laser surgeries, intracorneal ring segment tunnels, presbyopic treatments, and FS-assisted keratoplasty. We also review the role of FS lasers in diagnostic procedures such as two photon excitation fluorescence and second harmonic generation.
