PURPOSE: To study the safety and efficacy of refractive lens exchange as a refractive surgery modality in the presbyopic population.
SETTING: Oregon Eye Institute, Eugene, Oregon, USA.
METHODS: This retrospective review of patient charts included patient selection, preoperative evaluation, management of astigmatism, surgical technique, postoperative visual outcome, and complications. The study included 68 eyes comprising 32 bilateral and 4 unilateral refractive lens exchanges.

BACKGROUND: Lightning can cause a number of ocular complications. A case involving a patient who developed a cataract and reversible maculopathy in both eyes after being struck by lightning is reported.

METHODS: This prospective observational study included 33 patients with various retinal diseases. BACKGROUND: Tilted disc syndrome is a congenital anomaly characterized by an inferonasal "tilting" of the optic disc. We report three patients affected by macular neovascularisation-complicated tilted disk syndrome treated by intravitreal bevacizumab.

We treated 14 consecutive patients for acute central retinal artery occlusion. Eleven were treated with urokinase introduced through a microcatheter in the proximal segment of the ophthalmic artery. Fibrinolysis was succeeded by heparinization for two to three days. Instead of urokinase, we used tissue plasminogen activator in three patients. Vision improved markedly in four of the 14 patients.
