BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to define the cost of rib fracture hospitalization by single, multiple, and flail type using a nationally representative sample.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis, formerly known as histiocytosis X, represents clonal proliferations of the antigen-presenting dendritic cells, which are normally found in many organs. It is a rare disease which tends to affect children and adolescents. In particular, adult-onset type is very rare. Herein, we present a female adult diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis of the rib without any systemic involvement which was successfully treated with surgery.

Stereotactic radiosurgery, or SRS, uses focused beams of gamma radiation targeted to specific areas of the body and has been used for multiple forms of non-small cell lung cancer. In this article, the authors describe two incidental cases of osteonecrosis in patients who had previously undergone stereotactic radiosurgery with recurrence of tumor. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.
OBJECTIVE: To determine if additional procedures can be safely performed under the same anesthesia as early-onset scoliosis (EOS) rib-based surgeries. EOS patients with rib-based implants often require repeated invasive surgery to treat their spinal deformity, with associated risks of cognitive development impairment from multiple anesthetic exposures. Whilst surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) results in better outcomes, selection algorithms are lacking. We aimed to validate the Rib Fracture Management Guideline proposed by Bemelman. CONTEXT: Rib raising is an osteopathic manipulative treatment modality that can help patients with various respiratory conditions to improve their work of breathing. However, the tolerance of this technique in hospitalized patients has not been assessed in a systematic manner. We hypothesized that rib raising would be a well-tolerated treatment modality for hospitalized patients admitted for asthma, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and/or congestive heart failure.

CASE: A patient sustained flail chest and diaphragmatic rupture with perforation of the stomach. She underwent gastrorrhaphy with chest lavage. She developed empyema and underwent decortication. BACKGROUND: Tracheomalacia (TM), caused by anterior mediastinal tumorectomy, most likely to deteriorate condition of patient life.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old patient felt serious dyspnea diagnosis as TM caused by the recurrent cervical schwannoma. The narrowest diameter of the TM was only 0.446 cm and the length of malacic segment was 7.47 cm. Here we designed a novel tracheal suspension technique by using autogenous rib cartilage graft to treat severe TM. The obvious effect was observed that the inner diameter increased from 0.446 cm to 1.390 cm,and the airway symptom was alleviated.

Infantile osteomyelitis of the rib is rare but can be complicated by intrapleural pyogenic lesions. Even if findings suggest another infection focus, osteomyelitis should be considered if there are changes on radiographs.
