Presumed vascular traction-associated recurrence of retinal detachment in patients with myopic macular hole.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT-ophthalmoscopic examinations were consecutively performed in two patients with focal retinal rede … on of the recurrence and then attenuated with the elevation of the detached retina. Inward vascular tractional force appearing as a retinal microfold can be a critical trigger of recurrent retinal detachment in patients with myopic macular hole.

Results of vitrectomy for diabetic traction retinal detachments using the en bloc excision technique.

En bloc excision is a technique in which fibrovascular diabetic membranes and the posterior hyaloid are separated from the retina as a single unit. In a consecutive series of 69 eyes with diabetic traction retinal detachment treated with this technique, initial retinal reattachment was accomplished in 100% (69/69) of the eyes. With a minimum of 6 months' follow-up, the retina remained completely attached in 83% (57/69) of eyes, while the macula was attached in 88% (61/69) of eyes. Final visual acuity was 5/200 or better in 71% (49/69) of eyes. While current surgical techniques allow a high rat…

A Case Report on Ocular Toxocariasis in an Adult: Retinal Granuloma Complicated by Tractional Retinal Detachment.

Ocular toxocariasis (OT) predominantly affects children; however, its occurrence in adults is rare and often overlooked, resulting in delayed diagnosis. Granuloma-induced vitreoretinal traction may subsequently give rise to serious complications, including tractional retinal detachment (TRD). A 52-year-old female presented with a 2-month history of painless, progressive visual diminution in her left eye. Ocular examination revealed leukocoria with features of intermediate uveitis, dense vitritis, and a solitary retinal granuloma, findings consistent with OT; the right eye was within normal lim…

Efficacy and safety of different traction numbers in endoscopic submucosal dissection: a retrospective comparative study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) presents persistent challenges such as limited visualization and prolonged procedure time. Single-point traction (ST) enhances dissection efficiency, but has limitations including diminished traction efficacy over time and the need for repositioning. We developed a novel multi-point traction (MT) device to provide stable and convergent traction. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of non-traction (NT), ST, and MT for colorectal ESD. METHODS: This retrospective study analyzed colorectal ESD procedures perfor…

Ex vivo evaluation of a novel through-the-scope traction device for endoscopic submucosal dissection.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a technique used for resection of large neoplastic lesions, providing great oncological outcomes. However, ESD is technically challenging with a long learning curve, high complication rates, and extended procedure times. To address these limitations, various traction-assisted methods have been developed. This study evaluated a novel through-the-scope traction device (TRACMOTION, Fujifilm, Japan), which offers consistent and adjustable traction, in a pilot multicenter randomized ex vivo trial. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study …

Osteogenic surgical sutures for tendon traction and fixation: A model of achilles tendon sleeve avulsion.

Currently, the repair of Achilles tendon sleeve avulsion is a challenge due to their limited research and particularly difficult treatment. … icalcium phosphate (β-TCP) were prepared by electrospinning to serve as surgical sutures for tendon traction and fixation. The suture of 6 core-spun nanoyarns spun again into one strand had stronger mechanical properties, which could effectively pull the tendon. The silk fibroin micron yarn of the suture core layer and the polycaprolactone/silk fibroin/β-T …

The establishment and biomechanical analysis of finite element model for halo-pelvic traction in scoliosis correction.

BACKGROUND: Halo-pelvic traction (HPT) is increasingly used for severe spinal deformity correction, but its biomechanical mechanisms remain poorly understood, particularly lacking of a comprehensive finite element model incorporating the complete Halo-pelvic-spine-pelvis construct. This study aimed to establish a comprehensive halo-pelvic traction model and assess its biomechanical reliability. METHODS: A severe kyphoscoliosis (SS) model was created using patient CT data, reconstructed in Mimics, optimized in Geomagic Wrap, and assembled in UG12 for finite element analysis in Ansys. Material …

The Effect of Traction and Spinal Cord Morphology on Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Alerts in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis.

BACKGROUND: Patients with apical spinal cord deformity have been shown to be at a greater risk for intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) alerts when undergoing posterior spinal instrumented fusion (PSF) for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The use of intraoperative traction during deformity correction has also been associated with an increased risk of IONM alerts. With use of the Spinal Cord Shape Classification System (SCSCS), we investigated the interaction between spinal cord type and the use of intraoperative traction and their impact on IONM alerts during the surgical correction of …

Effect of cervical traction on balance parameters in patients with cervical radiculopathy: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Cervical Radiculopathy (CR) is a neurologic condition characterized by a dysfunction of a cervical spinal nerve, the roots of the nerve, or both. In CR, one of the most unpleasant symptoms after radicular pain is cervicogenic dizziness, which is characterized by postural balance disorders. Despite its effectiveness on pain and function, cervical traction has not been used to treat postural balance disorders in CR patients. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of mechanical intermittent cervical traction (MICT) on clinical and posturographic balance parameter…

Tractional Retinal Detachment Secondary to CHRPE-Associated Hamartoma With Macular Involvement: A Case Report.

Retinal hamartomas associated with hypertrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium are often linked to phakomatoses. This case report presents a 6-year-old patient with vision loss due to tractional rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Surgical intervention (vitrectomy) improved retinal architecture and visual acuity, although significant baseline visual acuity loss persisted, suggesting that early surgery may prevent complications and optimize outcomes. [J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2025;62(3):e31-e34.].
