Ultrasonography is highly sensitive for the diagnosis of sialoliths. Recently, wireless mobile ultrasonography was developed. We describe the case of a 49-year-old man who presented with painful postprandial left cheek swelling. Computed tomography detected a solitary 5-mm parotid duct stone with infection at the anterior portion of the left masseter muscle. Transoral stone removal was planned, although difficulty was expected in view of the surrounding infection. Surgery was performed under the guidance of mobile ultrasonography, and the stone was removed safely.

An article describes diagnostic difficulties in patient with giant renal cyst, erroneously diagnosed as ascites on ultrasonographic examination. Patient was initially suspected to have disseminated intraabdominal malignancy. Abdominal paracentesis of supposed ascites was performed. The diagnosis of giant renal cyst was finally made by CT and patient was treated surgically. OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to assess the usefulness of transperineal ultrasonography (US) for the determination of imperforate anus (IA) type.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2000 to December 2004, 46 of 193 patients with an IA underwent transperineal US prior to corrective surgery. Sonographic findings were reviewed to identify the presence of internal fistulas and to determine "distal rectal pouch to perineum (P-P)" distances. IA types were determined based on the sonographic findings, and the diagnostic accuracy of transperineal US was evaluated based on surgical findings.
