Diagnostic accuracy of dynamic computed tomographic angiographic of the lower leg in patients with critical limb ischemia.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of dynamic computed tomographic angiography (dyn-CTA) in patients with critical lower leg ischemia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A population of 29 patients with known peripheral arterial occlusive disease (Fontaine stage III or IV) was examined with a combined CTA protocol consisting of a standard CTA (s-CTA) of the lower leg runoff from the diaphragm to the toes and dyn-CTA of the calves (scan range, 48 cm; 8 phases; 3.5 seconds per phase, 100 kV; 120 mAs; contrast volume, 50 mL; flow rate, 5.0 mL/s). Digital subtraction a

Usefulness of Pointwise Encoding Time Reduction with Radial Acquisition-Magnetic Resonance Angiography after Endovascular Treatment for Intracranial Aneurysms.

PURPOSE: Imaging follow-up after endovascular treatment is important; however, time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF-MRA) has limitations associated with magnetic susceptibility and radiofrequency shielding caused by the stent and coils. We evaluated the diagnostic performance of pointwise encoding time reduction with radial acquisition (PETRA)-MRA after endovascular treatment for intracranial aneurysms. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 186 patients with 211 aneurysms who underwent both pointwise encoding time reduction with radial acquisition- and time-of-flight magnetic resonan

Digital variance angiography allows about 70% decrease of DSA-related radiation exposure in lower limb X-ray angiography.

Our aim was to investigate whether the previously observed higher contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and better image quality of Digital Variance Angiography (DVA) - compared to Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) - can be used to reduce radiation exposure in lower limb X-ray angiography. This prospective study enrolled 30 peripheral artery disease patients (mean ± SD age 70 ± 8 years) undergoing diagnostic angiography. In all patients, both normal (1.2 µGy/frame; 100%) and low-dose (0.36 µGy/frame; 30%) protocols were used for the acquisition of images in three anatomical regions (abdominal, fem

Comparison of transcranial Doppler investigation of aneurysmal vasospasm with digital subtraction angiographic and clinical findings.

OBJECTIVE: Transcranial Doppler (TCD) findings for evaluation of the severity of vasospasm (VSP) in patients with ruptured aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage are controversial. To clarify these TCD findings, intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography was used to simultaneously investigate the angiographic features of cerebral vessels and the cerebral circulation time (CCT). METHODS: Fifty patients with ruptured aneurysms, for whom computed tomographic scans indicated Fisher Grade III subarachnoid hemorrhage, were investigated. Aneurysmal neck clipping was performed in the acute stage. The

Arterial Spin Labeling for the Etiological Workup of Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Children.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Pediatric nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage accounts for half of stroke in children. Early diagnostic of the causative underlying lesion is the first step toward prevention of hemorrhagic recurrence. We aimed to investigate the performance of arterial spin labeling sequence (ASL) in the acute phase etiological workup for the detection of an arteriovenous shunt (AVS: including malformation and fistula), the most frequent cause of pediatric nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage. METHODS: Children with a pediatric nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage between 2011 and

Recent developments of cardiac digital radiography.

Digitization in cardiovascular radiology is on the verge of its realization. Since its introduction digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is gradually replacing conventional angiography in several areas of the body. The initial tendency to avoid the arterial catheterization by intravenous injection is somewhat reversed in favor of smaller intraarterial amounts of contrast medium injected through smaller catheters at reduced rates. However, left ventriculography by intravenous route has gained widespread acceptance at rest and with exercise: motion artifacts are less crucial for ventriculograph

Letter to the editor: "Therapeutic efficacy of drilling drainage combined with intraoperative middle meningeal artery occlusion in the management of chronic subdural hematoma: a clinical study".

This letter addresses the research presented by Sun et al. on the integration of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) with conventional surgical drainage for chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH), focusing on precision in targeting the middle meningeal artery (MMA). The study demonstrates a reduction in hematoma recurrence and drainage tube indwelling times, highlighting the procedural benefits without added complications. The letter suggests further research directions, including the potential for personalized surgical approaches based on MMA anatomy variations, and emphasizes the importance of t

Primary Angioleiomyoma in the Cavernous Sinus: A Case Report.

We present a new case of angioleiomyoma, with detailed preoperative magnetic resonance imaging and digital subtraction angiography studies. A 36-year-old man was referred to our hospital for headache and diplopia. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large tumor located in the right cavernous sinus, and it was resected subtotally. The residual tumor was treated with CyberKnife, which, to our knowledge, is the first use of CyberKnife treatment for intracranial angioleiomyoma. At 20 months postoperatively, the size of the residual tumor had been reduced.

Mechanical thrombectomy in two patients using the Solitaire AB device in cerebral aneurysms during endovascular coil embolisation.

Two men, 52 years and 54 years of age, presented with subarachnoid haemorrhage as a result of ruptured cerebral aneurysms. Both patients were treated with endovascular coil embolisation. Thromboembolic complications occurred in the middle cerebral artery during the procedure, and local thrombectomy was performed for recanalisation. Digital subtraction angiography revealed the immediate restoration of flow after mechanical thrombectomy with a stent in both patients. The Solitaire AB stent (ev3, Plymouth, MN, USA) can rapidly, safely, and effectively retrieve clots from the middle cerebral arter

[Carotid artery dissection].

BACKGROUND: Internal carotid artery dissection is a cause of ischemic stroke, particularly in young patients, without known cerebro-vascular risk factors. METHODS: The authors describe the clinical and imagiological (CT scan, MRI and digital subtraction angiography) records of five patients admitted during a period of two months in the Stroke Unit of Hospital de S. José, with the diagnosis of internal carotid artery occlusion with probable dissection. COMMENT: The clinical cases presented reflect the heterogeneity of clinical and imagiological presentation of carotid artery dissection.

Inadvertent embolization of a persistent sciatic artery in pelvis trauma.

We describe a case of unilateral persistent sciatic artery (PSA), a rare vascular anomaly, in a 43-year-old woman with severe multiple trauma. A small amount of diluted embolization particles went into this vessel during emergent endovascular therapy under fluoroscopic monitoring. The procedure was immediately stopped when the true nature of the anatomic variant was recognized. Fortunately, an ischemic event of the lower leg did not occur. The imaging findings of computed tomography and digital subtraction angiography are presented and the relevant literature is reviewed.

Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection to the portal vein.

Anomalous pulmonary venous return represents a rare congenital anomaly with wide anatomic and physiologic variability. We report a case of the newborn with a rare form of total infracardiac anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC). The pulmonary veins draining both lungs formed two vertical veins, which joined to a common pulmonary trunk below the diaphragm. This venous channel connected to the portal vein through the esophageal hiatus. The diagnosis was suggested by color Doppler sonography and confirmed by intravenous digital subtraction angiography, which allowed definition of the anat

Superselective Angiography of Vasa Vasorum Within Partially Thrombosed Vertebral Aneurysm: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Partially thrombosed vertebral artery aneurysms (PTVAs) are rare, most of which are not easy to treat. Furthermore, endovascular treatment of PTVAs may not have favorable outcomes. The relationship between PTVAs and well-developed vasa vasorum (VV), including the mechanism of aneurysm growth, has been reported, but there are no reports of imaging findings by digital subtraction angiography (DSA). In this case, we successfully performed superselective angiography of well-developed VV and evaluated its imaging characteristics. We present the first DSA report of a well-

Diagnostic Accuracy of 4D-MRA for the Detection and Localization of Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistulas: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: The gold standard for the diagnosis and detailed evaluation of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is a digital subtraction angiography (DSA). However, this procedure is time-consuming and effortful. A time-resolved contrast enhanced 4D magnetic resonance angiography (4D-MRA) can be used to increase the diagnostic accuracy of spinal magnetic resonance imaging for the detection and localization of a SDAVF. The goal of this study is to assess the diagnostic accuracy of 4D-MRA for the detection and localization of a SDAVF in comparison to DSA based on a systematic review of the

Management of perimesencephalic nonaneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: a national survey.

Perimesencephalic nonaneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (NASAH) is a rare type of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), usually associated with minor complications compared to aneurysmal SAH. Up to date, data is scarce and consensus on therapeutic management and follow-up diagnostics of NASAH is often missing. This survey aims to evaluate the clinical management among neurosurgical departments in Germany. 135 neurosurgical departments in Germany received a hardcopy questionnaire. Encompassing three case vignettes with minor, moderate and severe NASAH on CT-scans and questions including the in-hospita

Poor inter-observer agreement in anatomical classifications of infrapopliteal arterial disease due to mandatory selection of only one target artery.

BACKGROUND: Established anatomical classifications of infrapopliteal arterial lesion severity are based on assessment of only one target artery, not including all infrapopliteal arteries although multivessel revascularization is common. PURPOSE: To investigate the reproducibility of one of these classifications and a new aggregated score. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 68 patients undergoing endovascular infrapopliteal revascularization at Sahlgrenska University Hospital during 2008-2016 were included. Preoperative magnetic resonance angiographies (MRA) and digital subtraction angiographie

Congenital arteriovenous fistula between descending aorta and the left innominate vein.

Thoracic aortocaval fistulae are rare entities where a direct shunt between thoracic arteries and systemic veins is seen. They can be traumatic or congenital in origin. Congenital thoracic aortocaval fistulae usually involve descending aorta and azygos, hemiazygos systems. Presenting symptoms range from continuous murmur to signs of congestive heart failure. In this case report, imaging findings of a 3-year-old girl referred for continuous murmur over the left sternal border are presented. Computed tomography angiography revealed multiple tortuous vessels along the descending aorta with a cour
