PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ocular disease is relatively common in sarcoidosis and can be the initial clinical manifestation in some instances. In this study, we retrospectively evaluated the clinical and demographic features of 9 (1.74%) patients with lacrimal gland (LG) involvement out of 516 sarcoidosis patients who were followed up at our centre over the preceding 36-years. In addition, the characteristics of patients with LG involvement were compared to those of other cases with eye involvement and to other sarcoidosis patients.

The orifice of anastomosis and the lower aperture of the nasolacrimal duct in 14 cases (16 eyes) after dacryorhinostomy were followed up with the fibroendoscope. It was found that the size of the office and positioning of the bony window were key factors for a successful operation. Recent progress in microsurgery has led to a reappraisal of the endonasal approach to the lacrymal sac. The lacrymal duct is located in the orbito-nasal septum and is visible in the anterior part of the middle meatus. A technique is described which was applied in 20 cases, with one complete failure and two temporary failures, the patients having been successfully operated upon a second time.
