Complete surgical excision of a type V-variant dermoid sinus (V/VI overlap) associated with spina bifida in a Shiba Inu dog: A case report.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical, imaging, surgical, and histopathologic features of a type V/VI overlap dermoid sinus (DS), and highlight diagnostic and therapeutic considerations. STUDY DESIGN: Case report. ANIMAL: A 16-month-old spayed female Shiba Inu dog. METHODS: The Shiba Inu initially presented at 4 months of age with a dorsal thoracic hair tuft. Radiography and ultrasonography suggested a DS; contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were declined. The role of fenestration in acute canine thoracolumbar intervertebral disc extrusion: Part 2-The biological and biomechanical effects of fenestration.

BACKGROUND: Prophylactic fenestration is widely performed to prevent recurrence of canine acute thoracolumbar intervertebral disc extrusion (IVDE); however, there is a paucity of specific data regarding the biological and biomechanical effect of this procedure on the intervertebral disc and vertebral column. AIM: To evaluate the biological and biomechanical effect of fenestration by synthesizing data from clinical canine literature and preclinical in vivo and ex vivo (rabbit) models, to provide relevant translational information for the canine scenario. CONCLUSIONS: Biologically, experimenta

Prestretching increases working space at the same insufflation pressure in dogs undergoing laparoscopic procedures.

OBJECTIVE: To determine if prestretching (PS) of the abdominal wall provided improved working space during elective laparoscopic procedures in dogs. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. ANIMALS: Fifty client-owned dogs undergoing elective laparoscopic procedures. METHODS: Skin markings were used to evaluate stretching of the abdominal wall. The distance from the subumbilical port to the caudal aspect of the gallbladder was measured as a proxy for intra-abdominal working length (IWL). Prestretching was performed by insufflating to an intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) of 10 mmHg for 3 min. Th

Ultrasound-guided, minimally invasive, biceps brachii tenotomy in a standing horse.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the long-term outcome of a horse that underwent a standing, ultrasound-guided, minimally invasive, biceps brachii tenotomy. STUDY DESIGN: Case report. ANIMAL: A 17-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse gelding. METHODS: The horse had a chronic, severe, lameness localized to the left shoulder region. Diagnostic imaging revealed fractures of the intermediate and lesser tubercles of the left humerus, biceps brachii (BB) tendinopathy, and bicipital bursitis. Conservative management was attempted, but lack of improvement prompted surgical intervention. An ultrasound-guided, min
