PURPOSE: To evaluate the results from the correction of ectropion of the punctum lacrimale in lower eyelids with a new surgical clamp.
DESIGN: Prospective study.
METHODS: Eighty eight eyelids in 55 patients with mild and moderate ectropion were included in the study. An excision of a diamond of tarso-conjunctiva with retractor reattachment and concomitant correction of horizontal lid laxity, if present, was performed.
RESULTS: Resolution of tearing was obtained in 77 eyes. In 11 eyes, persistent tearing was reported.

A total of 403 vaginal discharge specimens were investigated for Trichomonas vaginalis using fresh wet-mounts, culture and Papanicolaou staining. By fresh wet-mounts, 58 specimens (14.4%) were found harbouring the parasite. On culture 67 isolates (16.7%) were identified. Both wet-mount and cultural procedures detected 18.3% positive isolates. PROBLEM: A 25-year-old man presented with a large osteoma in the right ethmoidal sinus.
METHODOLOGY: The osteoma was removed by an endoscopic endonasal approach with a curved diamond drill and an electromagnetic navigation system.
RESULT: Computed tomography 3 days after surgery showed complete removal of the osteoma and normal position of the right eyeball. No long-term follow-up results were available.

PURPOSE: To describe a technique for modifying a Jones tube length in the operating room.
METHODS: The required length of the Jones tube is determined using an 18-gauge needle passed from the conjunctiva posterior to the caruncle to the middle meatus. A longer Jones tube is ground to the proper length with a 4-mm diamond burr on a saber drill.
RESULTS: This procedure results in shortening of an oversized Jones tube in the operating room with no gross or microscopic defects in the glass surface.

Trichomonas vaginalis was diagnosed in 42 (19%) of 227 adult males with urethral discharge. In 27 men (15%) T. vaginalis was isolated together with Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Non-gonococcal urethritis was diagnosed in 15 patients and T. vaginalis was isolated from 47% of such patients.
