We read with interest the publications in the JEADV which reported dermatological manifestations associated with COVID‐19, such as pityriasis rosea, urticaria, rash, vascular signs, or chilblain‐like lesions. Herein, we report two life‐threatening cases of children presenting with fever and eruptions with mucous membrane involvement – erythema multiforme and Kawasaki disease – associated with COVID‐19.

Recurrent oral erythema multiforme (ROEM) is now accepted as a less-recognized subtype of erythema multiforme (EM). This study describes an erythema multiforme (EM) in breeding sows, after their mixing in the group housing system. Sows at 30-35 days of gestation showed red and raised skin areas, depression, anorexia, fever, respiratory problems, and increased return to estrus. A 47-year-old woman underwent colectomy for advanced colon cancer and thereafter received regorafenib therapy as fourth-line chemotherapy. On treatment day 12, the patient developed erythema multiforme (EM) induced by the regorafenib therapy. Immediately after regorafenib was withdrawn, the patient was treated with oral bepotastine and steroid ointment, which relieved the EM without progressing to Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS). Erythema multiforme (EM) is an uncommon, immune-mediated disorder that presents with cutaneous or mucosal lesions or both. In herpes simplex virus (HSV)-associated EM, the findings are thought to result from cell-mediated immune reaction against viral antigen-positive cells that contain the HSV DNA polymerase gene (pol). We present a case of primary Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection with erythema multiforme. A 1-year-old Japanese boy presented with skin eruptions, including typical target lesions and a low-grade fever. Just before the skin biopsy, 95 copies/μg DNA of EBV genome was detected in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, which subsequently increased to 6,834 copies/μg DNA. Skin tissue collected from the skin lesion showed the typical pathologic findings of erythema multiforme. EBV-encoded small nuclear RNA signals were not detected in the skin tissue by in situ hybridization.

Rowell's syndrome is characterized by the association of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and erythema multiforme-like lesions with the presence of immunological markers such as antinuclear antibodies with speckled pattern, anti-La antibodies and rheumatoid factor. We present the case of a 22-year-old woman with a diagnosis of SLE and erythema multiforme and discuss the possibility of distinguishing these entities from Rowell's syndrome.

Recurrent erythema multiforme is an uncommon disorder. We have reviewed the clinical features and treatment of 65 patients with this condition. The mean number of attacks per year was six (range 2-24), and the mean duration of the disease was 9.5 years (range 2-36) reflecting its chronicity. The majority of patients had oral mucous membrane involvement (69%). In 46 patients (71%) the condition was precipitated by a preceding herpes simplex virus infection.
