PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Neutropenic fever is the most common infective complication in patients receiving cytotoxic chemotherapy, and may result in severe sepsis, septic shock and mortality. Advancements in approaches to empiric antimicrobial therapy and prophylaxis have resulted in improved outcomes. Mortality may, however, still be as high as 50% in high-risk cancer populations. PURPOSE: To assess the results of olecranon fractures with an intra-articular sagittal plane fracture managed by orthogonal fixation constructs.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed and 14 proximal ulna fractures with intra-articular comminution resulting in separate medial and lateral fragments were identified. To screen for autoantibodies associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), we used proteomic approaches combining 2-D PAGE and Western blot analysis, followed by protein identification by LC-MS/MS analysis, resulting in the identification of aldolase A as a novel autoantigen in SLE. The article describes the state of the art in the management of hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes in Denmark. Genetic counselling in relation to monogenic cancer syndromes is now well established in the Danish health care system, after a remarkable development during the past 10 years. The cornerstones of this activity are identification of persons at risk through elucidation of the family history of cancer, risk assessment, genetic testing and genetic counselling of the counselee and her/his family. During the counselling process, ethical, legal and psychosocial issues are addressed.

The capacity of bacterial endocarditis to mimic other systemic illnesses is well known. This report describes a patient with blood culture-negative bacterial endocarditis who presented with features suggestive of rheumatoid arthritis. Despite sterile synovial fluid, synovial biopsy culture resulted in identification of the causative organism and led to specific antibiotic therapy and cure. This is the first report of such a case.
