BACKGROUND: This study was undertaken to assess the utility of prostate specific antigen (PSA) and PSA density (PSAD) in discriminating between benign and malignant prostate disease in the Kuwaiti Arab population.

This study assessed the reading, language, and memory skills of 56 bilingual Arab-Canadian children age's 9-14. English was their main instructional language, and Arabic was the language spoken at home. The Arabic version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HAD) scale was retested and cut-off points determined in a sample of 217 patients attending a primary health care centre in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.). Subjects were screened using the HAD scale and all patients were then interviewed by a single consultant psychiatrist. The scale scores were assessed against the psychiatrist's clinical evaluations. The systematic inventory and annual following of Phlebotomus population is established by the authors in a transmission area of visceral (human and canine) and cutaneous (human) leishmaniasis in the Yemen Arab Republic (province of Taez). Seven species of Phlebotomus and nine species of Sergentomyia are thus identified. Among them, four are considered as potential vectors: on the one hand, P. orientalis (s.g. Larroussius) and, probably P. arabicus (s.g. Adlerius) for L. infantum and L. donovani, in the other, P. sergenti and P. saevus (s.g. Paraphlebotomus) for L. tropica.

A 29-year-old Hungarian woman was found to be double heterozygote for Hb O Arab and beta-thalassaemia. Haemolytic anaemia became manifest during her second pregnancy. In the course of genetic studies G-6-PD deficiency was also detected in the family. The patient originates from a North-Eastern part of Hungary which had been hydrogeologically isolated during past centuries.

A forward evacuation hospital functioned in the southern front in October 1973 Israeli-Arab War as an intermediate unit in the Israeli casualty management logistics. Casualties were characterized by frequent multiple-system injuries and variable combinations of penetrating wounds, blunt trauma, burns, and inhalation injury, with an increased incidence of associated blunt trauma.
