INTRODUCTION: Postoperative delirium is associated with opioid use in the elderly and is a common complication of geriatric hip fractures, with reported incidences from 16% to 70%. INTRODUCTION: Rib fractures after blunt trauma contribute substantially to morbidity and mortality in the elderly.
METHODS: Retrospective review of 255 patients ≥65 years old at a level 2 trauma center over 6 years, who sustained blunt trauma resulting in rib fractures. Outcomes measured include mortality, hospital length of stay(LOS), intensive care unit(ICU) admission, ICU LOS, need for MV, and MV days.

Clinical trials generate gold standard medical evidence, but are often criticized for the lack of population representativeness. We performed a comparative meta-analysis of drug trials that focus on older adults (>= 65 years old) and adults (18-64 years old). The major finding is that a higher percentage of geriatric drug trials were terminated or withdrawn than that of adult drug trials.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to evaluate the time course of changes in strength and functional performance in elderly hospitalized medical patients.
DESIGN: This was a prospective observational study in elderly medical patients of age 65 years or older at a geriatric department.Measurements were obtained on days 2 to 4, day 5 to 8, and days 9 to 13. Functional performance was measured with De Morton Mobility Index (DEMMI) test and a 30-second chair stand test (30-s CST). Muscular strength was measured with handgrip strength. Activity level was determined with accelerometry (ActivPAL).
