This paper describes the isolation and complete amino acid sequence of growth hormone (GH) from the pituitary gland of the crocodile, Crocodylus novaeguineae. GH was detected in an alkaline extract of the pituitary by specific immunoblot reactivity with rabbit antisera against cattle and salmon GH and isolated in pure form by DEAE-cellulose chromatography and by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. When an aqueous solution (pH 7.0) of 3H deoxythymidine 5'-triphosphate, deoxythymidine 5'-phosphate, 4-amino-5-imidazolecarboxamide, cyanamide and ammonium chloride was dried and heated at 60 degrees C for 18 h, oligomers were obtained in a yield of approximately 80%. Homocytotropic antibody has been shown to occur in pigs experimentally infected with lungworms, Metastrongylus spp. This antibody is heat labile, inactivated by 2-mercaptoethanol and persists at passively sensitized skin sites for up to 14 days. On electrophoresis in a polyvinyl copolymer at pH 8.6 homocytotropic antibody was recovered in the fast γ-slow β area. Hyperoxaluria, alone or associated with hypercalciuria, has been detected in 69 of 450 patients with recurrent stones (15.3 per cent). The 3 main findings associated with hyperoxaluria were 1) oxalate hyperabsorption, 2) hyperoxalemia and 3) increased or decreased oxalate clearance. Correction of oxalate hyperabsorption by administration of diethylaminoethanol cellulose showed good results through a 5-year followup. Succinimide, given to the hyperoxalemic group, and a combination of phosphate and magnesium, given to the group with altered clearances, showed poorer results.

A manganese containing superoxide dismutase was purified to homogeneity from the venom of scorpion Heterometrus fulvipes by ammonium sulfate fractionation followed by gel filtration on Sephadex G-100 and ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose. Tyrosinase activity in crude extracts from various tissues of the adult bovine eye was examined biochemically. Enzyme activity was measured by using L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) as substrate and determining colorimetrically by an increase in absorbancy at 400 or 475 nm. Hexosaminidase (Hex) C could be detected in human brains by DEAE cellulose column chromatography, when N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase activity was determined at pH 5.5. In the chromatographic pattern, the peak of Hex C was always higher than that of Hex A in control prenatal brains and conversely lower in postnatal brains. Testis- and sperm-specific protein phosphatase, PP1gamma2, is a key enzyme regulating sperm function. Its activity decreases during sperm maturation in the epididymis. Inhibition of PP1gamma2 leads to motility initiation and stimulation.
