Femoral Nerve Neuropathy by Synovial Hip Cyst as a Treatable Cause of Recurrent Falls: A Case Report.

Synovial cysts originating from the hip joint are rarely symptomatic and are mostly found incidentally by imaging. When the cyst intrudes into the surrounding structures, local pain and swelling, arterial/venous compression, and rarely neurologic symptoms related to disturbance of femoral nerve function can be observed. We report a case of a 78-year-old man who was admitted because of recurrent falls at home over the last weeks. He had been noticing weakness in the right leg, and clinical and neurophysiologic examinations corroborated femoral nerve palsy. A pelvic computed tomography scan depi

Successful selective arterial embolization in a patient with iliacus muscle hematoma and femoral neuropathy: A case report.

RATIONALE: Hematoma of the iliacus muscle is a rare but acknowledged complication associated with anticoagulant therapy. This condition may lead to nerve dysfunction due to compression, particularly affecting the femoral nerve. While there is no established guideline for its management, there has been a consensus favoring surgical intervention in cases of large hematoma with worsening neurological deficits. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 67-year-old female presented to emergency room with acute groin pain, numbness in her right leg, and motor weakness following strenuous squat exercises. The patient had

Femoral nerve neuropathy of an endurance horse as a sequela of iliopsoas muscle myopathy diagnosed by transrectal ultrasonography.

Femoral nerve neuropathy causes lameness, a condition clinically characterized by stifle's lack of extension with subsequent diminished lower limb function. This case report describes the ultrasonographic diagnosis of femoral neuropathy secondary to compression caused by myopathy of the iliopsoas muscle of an endurance horse during a competition. Transrectal ultrasonography played a pivotal role in diagnosis of the injury by assessment of the involved structures and monitoring of the healing process throughout the recovery period. The horse achieved complete recovery and successfully returned

Femoral neuropathy secondary to the use of a self-retaining retractor. Report of three cases and review of the literature.

PURPOSE: Three recent cases of femoral neuropathy at our institution following colorectal surgery have been ascribed to the use of the self-retaining Bookwalter retractor. The pathophysiology of neural injury includes compression, stretch, transection, ligation, iliopsoas hematoma, ischemia, and cement encapsulation. The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of femoral nerve anatomy and mechanism of retractor injury. METHODS: The relationship of the femoral nerve to the lateral blade of the Bookwalter retractor was evaluated during colorectal surgery and in cadaveric dissecti

MRI-guided cryoablation of the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve for the treatment of neuropathy-mediated sitting pain.

Neuropathy of the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve may manifest as pain and paresthesia in the skin over the inferior buttocks, posterior thigh, and popliteal region. Current treatment options include physical and oral pain therapy, perineural injections, and surgical neurectomy. Perineural steroid injections may provide short-term pain relief; however, to our knowledge, there is currently no minimally invasive denervation procedure for sustained pain relief that could serve as an alternative to surgical neurectomy. Percutaneous cryoablation of nerves is a minimally invasive technique that in

Kinematic and kinetic adaptations in the lower limb during stance in gait of unilateral femoral neuropathy patients.

This study aimed to quantify the impact of a unilateral femoral neuropathy on joint kinematic and kinetic strategies employed in the lower limbs during gait. The stance phase of gait of four subjects with proximal femoral nerve injury occurring 5-15 months previously was investigated with a video-based data collection system. Kinematic and kinetic data of the pelvis and lower limb segments were sampled unilaterally from both the involved and uninvolved lower extremities. Results revealed that the uninvolved limb demonstrated no clear compensatory strategies except for prolonged stance phase in

Extended Inflammatory Osteitis Pubis With Associated Myositis and Femoral Neuropathy in an Amateur Football Player: A Case Report.

A 42-year-old male amateur football player presented with a 17-day history of progressive groin pain, primarily on the right, radiating to the perineum, associated with limitation of hip motion. Because of proximal weakness and elevated inflammatory markers, polymyositis and an infectious process were initially suspected. Electromyography demonstrated a subacute incomplete axonal lesion of the right femoral nerve likely due to iliopsoas compression. Joint aspiration yielded purulent-appearing fluid with 850 WBC/mm3 and 80% PMNs, although cultures remained negative. MRI demonstrated bone marrow

Duloxetine contributing to a successful multimodal treatment program for peripheral femoral neuropathy and comorbid 'reactive depression' in an adolescent.

In the United States, duloxetine has been approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder, diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia in the adult population. Data regarding the use of duloxetine in the pediatric population, however, are very limited. Femoral nerve injury is a rare complication of cardiac catheterization. In the case described, duloxetine contributed to a successful multimodal treatment program for peripheral neuropathic pain due to femoral neuropathy in an adolescent with 'reactive depression' and conversion symptoms. To the best of the authors' knowledge,

Percutaneous decompression for femoral neuropathy secondary to heparin-induced retroperitoneal hematoma: case report and review of the literature.

Retroperitoneal hematoma resulting in femoral nerve injury is a serious potential complication of systemic heparin anticoagulation. Review of the literature reveals lack of agreement with respect to conservative versus surgical management. The authors report the first case in which return of function was established by percutaneous decompression of a retroperitoneal hematoma in a patient who was not a candidate for immediate surgery. The favorable result suggests that percutaneous drainage may represent a reasonable alternative or first step in surgical treatment of this compression.

Behçet's disease with rapidly progressive bilateral optic neuropathy and avascular femoral neck necrosis. Literature review and management update.

Behçet's disease is a multi-systemic vasculitis of small arteriolar and venular vessels, which shows a wide range of clinical manifestations, such as oral and genital aphthosis, erythema nodosum, panuveitis, complex gastrointestinal disorders, the early onset of neurological involvement being a negative prognostic factor in evolution. We present the case of a 36-year-old patient, who was admitted in the Clinic of Rheumatology for recurrent-neglected oral aphthosis, recurrent erythema nodosum, left hip pain, reduction of visual acuity of the right eye, weight loss, profuse sweating, marked fati

Sciatic neuropathy caused by disorder of a nutrient artery: a case report of thromboembolism secondary to profunda femoral artery aneurysm.

This report describes a case of sciatic neuropathy caused by an obstruction of the nutrient artery of the nerve. The patient was a 76-year-old man who had an aneurysm in his right thigh and suddenly complained of pain and weakness in his right leg. Computed tomography scan and ultrasonography of the right thigh showed an aneurysm with a thrombus in the lumen of the profunda femoral artery. His symptoms did not immediately improve after the aneurysm had been resected, and were consistent with right sciatic neuropathy. Recovery of strength of the right tibialis anterior muscle from 0/5 to 3/5 re
