[Neoplasm mortality in women in reproductive age (15 to 49 years) in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, from 1991 to 1995].

OBJECTIVE: To describe the mortality owing to neoplasms in women of reproductive age (15 to 49 years) in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, from 1991 to 1995. METHODS: A list of all deaths and their underlying causes, coded according to the International Classification of Diseases, 9 th revision, and estimates of the female population according to age groups were provided by the SEADE Foundation. Specific coefficients for 100 thousand women for each year as well as the medians of the coefficients related to 5 years, and the percentage of underlying causes of death by subgroups were calculated.

Ameloblastic fibro-odontosarcoma with mandibular bone invasion and regional lymph node metastasis in a cat: case report.

Odontogenic tumours are uncommon neoplasms in domestic animals, mostly solitary and locally infiltrative, but rarely metastatic. We report the case of a 13-year-old neutered male cat presented with a mandibular gingival neoformation. A computed tomography scan revealed an irregular neoformation with marked post-contrast enhancement, associated with lysis of the incisive bone and mandibular symphysis. Histologically, the oral mucosa and mandibular bone were infiltrated by a neoplasm consisting of a mixed population of odontogenic epithelium admixed with bundles of odontogenic ectomesenchyme, mu

Neoplasms with neural differentiation: a review. Part II: Malignant neoplasms.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) encompass a wide and unusual group of neoplasms with features of neural differentiation. They most commonly present as spindle cell neoplasms and it can be difficult to differentiate them from other spindle cell neoplasms such as leiomyosarcomas, fibrosarcomas and synovial sarcomas. Strict criteria need to be applied in order to make the diagnosis of MPNSTs. Helpful features include contiguity with a nerve or an association with von Recklinghausen disease. The use of immunohistochemical stains may also help to confirm the diagnosis. Markers suc

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma arising in bone: report of a case of the monomorphic variant with the t(2;5)(p23;q35) translocation.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) represents approximately 2% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas according to the recent Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Classification Project. As defined in the revised European-American classification of lymphoid neoplasms (REAL), ALCL is a neoplasm of T-cell or null-cell lineage; 20% to 60% of cases are associated with the t(2;5)(p23;q35) translocation. ALCL commonly involves nodal as well as a wide variety of extranodal sites, although primary or secondary involvement of bone is rare. We describe the case of a 71-year-old man with stage IE T-cell ALCL, monomorphic varia

Cartilage- and bone-forming tumors of the soft tissues.

Benign and malignant cartilage- and bone-forming tumors arising in soft tissues are unusual. Hyaline cartilage tumors may easily be mistaken as malignant if the histologic criteria of intraosseous lesions are applied directly. Other chondroid- and bone-forming tumors also may be difficult to recognize. The correct pathologic diagnosis within this group of neoplasms requires close clinical correlation, as well as familiarity and careful interpretation of a broad histologic spectrum.

The transcription factor LMO2 is a robust marker of vascular endothelium and vascular neoplasms and selected other entities.

The transcription factor LMO2 is involved in vascular and hematopoietic development and hematolymphoid neoplasia. We have demonstrated that LMO2 is expressed nearly ubiquitously in native and neoplastic vasculature, including lymphatics. LMO2 reactivity is otherwise virtually absent in nonhematolymphoid tissues except in breast myoepithelium, prostatic basal cells, and secretory phase endometrial glands. Vasculature is LMO2- in adult and fetal heart, brain of older adults, hepatic sinusoids, and hepatocellular carcinoma. LMO2 is uniformly expressed in benign vascular and lymphatic neoplasms an

Extraosseous osteosarcoma of the esophagus: a case report.

Extraosseous osteosarcoma (EOO) is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm that is located in the soft tissues without direct attachment to the skeletal system and that produces osteoid, bone, or chondroid material. EOO is an extremely rare disease, accounting for only 1% of soft tissue sarcomas, and typically presents in either an extremity or the retroperitoneum. This paper presents the case of a 45-year-old Caucasian male with extraosseous osteosarcoma of the esophagus.

Incidental finding of bone tracer accumulation in gastrointestinal stromal tumor: Two case reports.

Bone scintigraphy with technetium-labelled diphosphonates is widely used for evaluating skeletal pathology. However, extra-osseous uptake may also be encountered and can indicate underlying neoplastic processes. We report 2 cases of incidental intra-abdominal uptake on bone scans, later confirmed as gastrointestinal stromal tumors. In both cases, planar bone scintigraphy revealed focal tracer uptake in the abdomen, which SPECT/CT localized to exophytic gastric masses with intralesional calcification. Histopathological confirmation was obtained via endoscopic biopsy and surgical resection. Thes

(B)On(e)-cohistones and the epigenetic alterations at the root of bone cancer.

Identification of mutations in histones in a number of human neoplasms and developmental syndromes represents the most compelling evidence to date for a causal role of epigenetic perturbations in human disease. In most cases, these mutations have gain of function properties that cause deviation from normal developmental processes leading to embryo defects and/or neoplastic transformation. These exciting discoveries represent a step-change in our understanding of the role of chromatin (dys)regulation in development and disease. However, the mechanisms of action of oncogenic histone mutations (o

Novel BMP2K::PDGFRA fusion in an unusual myeloid/lymphoid neoplasm with eosinophilia.

BACKGROUND: Myeloid and/or lymphoid neoplasms with eosinophilia PDGFRA gene fusions usually occur with FIP1L1 as the partner gene; however, novel partners have been described. These novel partners are sometimes responsive to tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy. PURPOSE: We describe here a patient with a PDGFRA fusion with a previously undescribed partner gene, BMP2K. METHODS: RNA sequencing with the Archer Fusion Plex Pan Solid Tumor Panel (IDT) was used to detect fusions. DNA sequencing using a custom IDT panel was also performed. RESULTS: An in-frame BMP2K::PDGFRA fusion was detected in a p

Intracranial Extracranial Huge Meningioma: Report of a Case.

Meningioma accounts for 15% to 20% of all intracranial neoplasms. Intracranial meningioma is a common brain tumor but huge meningiomas with extracranial extensions are extremely rare. Various symptoms, including neurological deficits and epileptic seizures are very frequent in these cases. Surgery still remains the principal form of the treatment and must be preceded by appropriate preoperative diagnostics. We report an unusual case of a huge meningioma of the brain (intracranial-extracranial extension) invading and destroying the skull bone and subcutaneous and cutaneous tissue. A 44-year old

Cartilaginous choristoma of the tongue with an immunohistochemical study.

By definition, choristomas are normal tissues found in anomalous topography. The cartilaginous features of these lesions are rare in the soft tissues of the oral cavity. The majority of cartilaginous choristomas of the tongue--the primary site of emergence of the oropharynx--are associated with adipose, fibrous or bone tissues--apart from that, only a few of these were confirmed by an immunohistochemical study. The neoplasm exclusively composed of chondromatous tissue is extremely rare in the tongue. This paper reports the clinical, surgical and pathological characteristics of a cartilaginous

[Interpretation of National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Clinical Practice Guidelines in Bone Cancer (Version 2.2026): Updates in diagnosis and treatment strategies for giant cell tumor of bone, osteosarcoma, and Ewing sarcoma].

Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB), osteosarcoma, and Ewing sarcoma represent the most characteristic primary bone neoplasms, and optimization of their diagnostic and therapeutic strategies remains a research priority in the field of bone and soft tissue oncology. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) released the Clinical Practice Guidelines in Bone Cancer (Version 2.2026), introducing key evidence-based updates spanning equivalent biological therapy alternatives, perioperative chemotherapy conceptual restructuring, expanded management strategies for recurrent/progressive disease, ref

Ossifying Fibromyxoid Tumor of the Genitourinary Tract: Report of 4 Molecularly Confirmed Cases of a Diagnostic Pitfall.

Ossifying fibromyxoid tumors (OFMTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms which typically present in the superficial subcutaneous tissues and have not been reported to arise in visceral organs. We now report 4 molecularly confirmed cases of OFMT involving the genitourinary tract. All patients were males, ranging in age from 20 to 66 years (mean: 43 y). One case each arose in the kidney, ureter, perirenal soft tissue, and penis. All neoplasms demonstrated bland epithelioid to spindled cells set in a variably fibrous to fibromyxoid stroma, and only 1 had a peripheral shell of lamellar bone. All cases

Current status of transport-disc-distraction osteogenesis for mandibular reconstruction.

Surgical intervention including composite mandibulectomy is the mainstay of treatment for extrication of disease in patients with neoplasms involving the mandible. The associated morbidities and reduction in quality of life after reconstruction of the mandibular defect are dependent on the quality of the reconstruction. Therefore, alternative treatments, such as distraction osteogenesis, could be a viable option to improve patient outcome. The goal of this technology is to restore bony continuity through the use of in-situ bone in an attempt to create an anatomically correct regenerate that is

Case report: gastric plasmacytoma resistant to radiation therapy.

Plasma cell neoplasms are a group of diseases involving the malignant proliferation of plasma cells. One common type of plasma cell neoplasm is multiple myeloma, which typically occurs diffusely in the bone marrow. It can manifest with a variety of presentations, including bone pain, fractures, anemia, infection, hypercalcemia, and renal failure. A less common type of plasma cell neoplasm is the solitary plasmacytoma, which is a local proliferation of plasma cells in the bone or extramedullary tissues. They rarely recur after local radiation therapy. An 83-year-old woman was noted on routine la

Polydactyly and Risk of Cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Syndromic polydactyly is often associated with an increased cancer risk. However, limited data exist regarding nonsyndromic polydactyly and its associated risk of subsequent malignancy. Therefore, our purpose was to investigate differences in rates of both malignant and benign neoplasms among pediatric patients diagnosed with nonsyndromic polydactyly compared with matched controls. METHODS: The TriNetX US Collaborative Network database was queried using ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes to identify patients aged 10 and younger diagnosed with any form of polydactyly. Patients were then divi

Soft Tissue Mass Extramedullary Plasmacytoma Following Radiation Therapy for Solitary Bone Plasmacytoma.

Soft tissue involvement in extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is an exceptionally rare occurrence within the spectrum of plasma cell neoplasms. This case report presents the unique scenario of a patient who developed a soft tissue mass EMP subsequent to receiving radiation therapy for a solitary bone plasmacytoma at a distinct anatomical site. The primary objective of this report is to elucidate the clinical characteristics, diagnostic complexities, and management considerations associated with this uncommon presentation. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, we aim to provide

Osteochondrolipoma: a subcutaneous lipoma with chondroid and bone differentiation of the chest wall.

Lipomas are the most common subtype of benign soft tissue neoplasms and can occur anywhere in the body. Differentiation into a diversity of mesenchymal elements, such as blood vessels, fibrous tissue or muscle, is a frequent event. However, the presence of bone or cartilage in these tumors is extraordinarily rare with very few cases reported in the head and neck area. We report a case of an 'osteochondrolipoma' of the chest wall, in a young individual, providing a rationale in support of this as a possible and distinctive histologic subtype of lipomas, as well as discussion in the differential
