This study designs and constructs a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD)-field asymmetric ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) system. An innovative approach is adopted to fabricate a multi-channel DBD ion source using 3D printing technology. The printing material itself served as the discharge medium, enabling the simultaneous generation of four plasma jets, effectively enhancing the ionization efficiency. By optimizing the inlet positions of nitrogen and helium gases, the background ion signal intensity was reduced from 356.3 pA to 0, effectively eliminating the system background noise. Under the

Applications in chemistry, biology, and diagnostics increasingly require precise and reconfigurable delivery of chemical cues on open and accessible surfaces. Achieving such spatially resolved and dynamically programmable control remains challenging with conventional microfluidic systems, whose fixed and enclosed architectures limit adaptability, scalability, and sample access. Here, we introduce a modular, 3D-printed input-processing-output-flow (IPOF) framework that enables plug-and-play reconfiguration of open-space microfluidic functions without redesigning the entire probe. This strategy

Exosomes (EXOs) help cells communicate by transporting proteins, lipids, and RNA. EXOs are being studied for diagnosis and treatment in oncology, regenerative medicine, and infectious diseases. EXOs' research is limited because isolating high-purity EXOs in sufficient quantities impairs their therapeutic value. Bioprinting, which uses 3D printing to produce complex living objects, opens new avenues for medical research. 3D bioprinting can overcome limitations in EXO research. Bioprinting-customized microenvironments can imitate the natural biological setting, increasing the production of EXOs

Four-dimensional (4D) printing represents a paradigm shift in additive manufacturing, enabling the creation of dynamic, stimuli-responsive structures that can change shape or function over time. This study introduces a significant advancement in this field by developing 4D-printed responsive cellulosic composite (RCC) strips consisting of varying ratios of AFFINISOL (AFF, a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose derivative) and thermoplastic starch (TPS) using fused filament fabrication (FFF) technology. Further, 4D-printed RCC strips were characterized for thermal properties, which revealed glass tran

Raman spectroscopy is a powerful tool for qualitative and quantitative analysis in various scientific and industrial fields. However, the development of multisample automated screening remains relatively unexplored. In this paper, we develop RamanBot, a low-cost, easy-to-assemble, and automated Raman spectroscopy system designed for efficient signal collection from samples stored in different types of containers. For the first time, the proposed device introduces the Cartesian motion system, commonly used in 3D printers, to Raman spectroscopy automation. This is achieved by replacing the extru

Breath sampling mouthpieces are essential for breathomics research, as they effectively remove saliva contamination during sampling. However, for real-time online mass spectrometric breath analysis, the widely adopted filter-based mouthpieces substantially compromise data quality due to analyte adsorption and background interference. In this study, guided by the inertial impaction principle, we designed and fabricated three impingement-plate mouthpiece types via 3D printing using biocompatible, low-porosity poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid). Computational fluid dynamics simulations and salivary am

Three-dimensional (3D) printing has accelerated the development of customized medical devices, but biofilm formation on printed materials remains a major threat to implant safety and performance. Because material chemistry and print-dependent surface features can influence bacterial attachment and antibiotic tolerance, standardized in vitro approaches that enable meaningful comparisons across commonly used 3D-printing polymers are needed. Here, we compare biofilm development on polylactic acid (PLA) and polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) using a multi-model in vitro evaluation framework

A low-cost fluorimetric platform fabricated by 3D printing was developed for benzodiazepine (BZD) detection using smartphone-based RGB image analysis. The method relies on hypochlorite-induced fluorogenesis of non-emissive BZDs, including clonazepam, diazepam, bromazepam, and midazolam. Spectroscopic and theoretical analyses indicated that hypochlorite oxidation promotes cleavage of the seven-membered diazepine ring, generating conjugated benzophenone-like products containing a rigid CO group responsible for the enhanced fluorescence emission. Mass spectrometry further indicated chlorination

Microrobots hold immense potential in biomedical applications, including drug delivery, disease diagnostics, and minimally invasive surgeries. However, two key challenges hinder their clinical translation: achieving scalable and precision fabrication, and enabling non-invasive imaging and tracking within deep biological tissues. Magnetic particle imaging (MPI), a cutting-edge imaging modality, addresses these challenges by detecting the magnetization of nanoparticles and visualizing superparamagnetic nanoparticles (SPIONs) with sub-millimeter resolution, free from interference by biological ti

3D printing has emerged as a suitable technology for creating foodstuff with functional, sensorial, and nutritional attributes. There is growing interest in creating plant-based foods as alternatives to address current demands, especially to tailor consumer preferences. Consequently, plant-derived edible inks for additive manufacturing have emerged as suitable options, including emulsion gels (or emulgels). These gels can be formulated entirely from plant-derived lipids, proteins, polysaccharides, and/or other ingredients to form complex fluids that belong to the category of soft matter. This

The high-temperature thermal stability of dexamethasone (DEX) was systematically investigated under nitrogen and air atmospheres using non-isothermal thermogravimetry at heating rates of 0.1-20 °C·min-1. The thermal decomposition was found to initiate below the melting temperature, proceeding via a three-step pathway that generated a complex mixture of volatile and condensed by-products (~10% solid residuum at 550 °C). Kinetic modeling was realized using the single-curve multivariate kinetic analysis (sc-MKA), and was based on the autocatalytic framework with temperature-dependent parameters,

Human infections by Trypanosoma cruzi propagate via its blood-feeding triatomine vector. Investigating parasite-vector interactions depends upon robust techniques to rear insects and analyze infections. Here, we present a protocol for laboratory rearing and infection tracking of Rhodnius prolixus. We describe steps for housing, feeding, and sorting strategies using 3D-printable designs. We also detail procedures for gut dissection, fecal collection, and parasite re-isolation. This protocol describes techniques that support efforts to understand and mitigate vector-mediated Chagas disease trans

Natural tissue comprises fibrous proteins with complex fiber alignment patterns. Here, we develop a reproducible method to fabricate biomimetic scaffolds with patterned fiber alignment along two independent orientations. While extrusion-based approaches are commonly used to align fibrous polymers in a single orientation parallel to the direction of flow, we hypothesized that extrusion-based 3D printing could be utilized to achieve more complex patterns of fiber alignment. Specifically, we show that control of lateral spreading of a printed filament can induce fiber alignment that is either par
