OBJECTIVE: Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital cardiac condition and data regarding pregnancy outcomes in this patient group are scarce. We evaluated the maternal and perinatal risks of pregnancy in 81 women with Ebstein's anomaly.
METHODS: The Registry of Pregnancy and Cardiac disease is a prospective global registry of pregnancies in women with structural cardiac disease. Pregnancy outcomes in women with Ebstein's anomaly were examined. The primary outcome was the occurrence of a major adverse cardiac event (MACE) defined as maternal mortality, heart failure, arrhythmia, thromboembolic e

BACKGROUND: Ebstein's anomaly (EA) is a kind of congenital heart disease, which is currently widely treated by cone reconstruction. However, the prediction of postoperative recovery is still challenging.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on EA cases undergoing cone reconstruction from January 2010 to January 2016. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed, with postoperative adverse events defined as dependent variable and pre- and intraoperative parameters defined as independent variables. The predictive capacity of preoperative percutaneous oxygen

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: Ebstein's anomaly (EA) is a congenital heart disease characterized by apical displacement of the tricuspid valve leaflets in the right ventricle. The objective of this retrospective study was to investigate the signalment, clinical features, echocardiographic findings, and outcome of dogs with EA.
ANIMALS, MATERIALS AND METHODS: Medical records of 40 dogs with EA were reviewed. Echocardiographic variables used to assess EA severity in human pediatrics were also evaluated (e.g. displacement index, Celermajer index, Carpentier class, and apex-mitral annulus:apex-tricusp

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to clarify the feasibility of myocardial strain using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) for the evaluation of left ventricular (LV) deformation in patients with Ebstein's anomaly (EA).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We recruited 32 patients with EA and 30 controls for CMR examination and measured LV function, dimension and tissue tracking parameters (the global and regional radial, circumferential and longitudinal peak strain), together with the right ventricle (RV) dimension. LV strain parameters were compared among the controls, patients with preserved LV ej

BACKGROUND: Data regarding long-term follow-up of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) of accessory pathways (APs) in patients with Ebstein's anomaly (EA) are limited. The procedures are challenging due to multiple or wide APs.
METHODS: Analysis was performed on clinical and periprocedural data of patients with EA referred to the centre in order to perform catheter ablation of AP. The group consisted of 22 patients (female 40.9%, mean age 33.6 ± 19.1 years). The follow-up utilized electrocardiogram and Holter monitoring.
RESULTS: Twenty-two patients had 33 accessory pathways (8 patients h

We report a rare case of a Brazilian adult woman with Ebstein's Anomaly who presented with pacemaker endocarditis caused by Propionibacterium acnes. Ebstein's Anomaly is a rare congenital malformation of the heart. Infective endocarditis is defined as an infection of heart valves, of the mural endocardium, of a septal defect, or of a cardiac electronic implantable device. Propionibacterium acnes is a skin commensal bacterium, that is usually considered as a contaminant, but can, on rare occasions, cause serious infections including endocarditis of prosthetic valves, native valves and cardiac e

OBJECTIVE: There is currently no consensus of opinion regarding the optimal surgical management of Ebstein's anomaly (EA) in neonates and young infants. Reported early mortality rates range from 25% to 100%. In this study, we present an algorithm for choosing the best management option for neonates with EA based on analysis of our experience.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 1994 to June, 2011, 48 neonates with a diagnosis of EA were managed by the same surgical team. Of these, two died before intervention; the remaining 46 either were managed medically initially (n = 20) or underwent surgical inte

Ebstein's anomaly (EA) is a rare cardiac congenital malformation with displacement of septal and posterior tricuspid leaflets, resulting in atrialization of the right ventricle. We report a case of EA in which the etiology of a malfunctioning prosthetic tricuspid valve is depicted on cardiac computed tomography to be as a result of thrombus lodged in the valve.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital heart defect. Associated lesions are uncommon, and the mortality rates can be as high as 54% during the first month of life. Two cases of severe Ebstein's anomaly with ventricular septal defect are described. It is speculated that this rare association, allowing adequate forward pulmonary blood flow in the neonate, permitted the reported patients to survive the neonatal period, which is the most life-threatening time. The authors propose that the presence of a small ventricular septal defect can be beneficial for such patients, averting the need for surge

AIMS: The objective of this study is to establish factors associated with death after diagnosis of Ebstein's anomaly (EA) during childhood and adolescence.
METHODS AND RESULTS: This study is a retrospective chart review. All paediatric patients were diagnosed with EA and followed in tertiary-care university hospitals between 1980 and 2005. Factors associated with death were obtained using the Cox regression and log-rank tests. Of the 93 patients with EA, 18 (19%) died and 75 (81%) survived. The median age at EA diagnosis and follow-up was 0 (range 0-162) and 86 months (range 0-216), respectiv

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital cardiac defect associated with both displacement and incompetence of the tricuspid valve. The condition is commonly complicated by supraventricular tachycardias. We describe the management of a patient with this condition undergoing caesarean section. Propofol and remifentanil total intravenous anaesthesia resulted in haemodynamic stability and delivery of a healthy baby who breathed spontaneously after two minutes.

Several innovative approaches have been described to achieve endocardial pacing in patients with operated complex congenital heart diseases. We report herein a case of Ebstein's anomaly who underwent a Hardy's repair with a bidirectional Glenn shunt, tricuspid valve annuloplasty and atrial septal defect closure following which she developed complete heart block. The chest was reopened through the previous midsternotomy and a screw-in lead implanted transatrially that resulted in optimal pacing thresholds. This technique offers a viable alternative for endocardial pacing in peri-operative patie

A neonate with Ebstein's anomaly presented with severe cyanosis because of massive right-to-left shunt through an atrial septal defect and reduced blood flow through an unobstructed right ventricular outflow tract. This atypical patient underwent a right modified Blalock-Taussig shunt, which resolved the respiratory.

In this report we describe the case of a 37-year-old white woman with Ebstein's anomaly, who developed a rare syndrome called platypnea-orthodeoxia, characterized by massive right-to-left interatrial shunting with transient profound hypoxia and cyanosis. This shunt of blood via a patent foramen ovale occurred in the presence of a normal pulmonary artery pressure, and was probably precipitated by a propafenone overdose. This drug caused biventricular dysfunction, due to its negative inotropic effect, and hypotension, due to its peripheral vasodilatory effect. These effects gave rise to an incre

The implantation of permanent pacemakers in patients with congenital heart disease can be challenging. This report describes the complexity of pacemaker implantation in a patient with Ebstein's disease, tricuspid valve replacement, and right atrial abnormalities like severe intra- and interatrial conduction block that prevented dual chamber pacing from conventional sites. This case illustrates the promising possibility to circumvent the interatrial conduction block with single left atrial pacing instead of biatrial pacing which was not suitable here.
