PURPOSE: To introduce a limbal-based technique for retrieving posteriorly dislocated IOLs without pars plana vitrectomy, utilizing an anterior chamber air bubble for fundus visualization.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, 3 limbal paracentesis incisions (2, 6, and 10 o'clock) were created in 9 eyes. An air bubble was injected into the anterior chamber to enable direct fundus visualization. The dislocated IOL was grasped via a forceps inserted through limbal incisions and repositioned or exchanged without pars plana vitrectomy.
RESULTS: 9 patients (9 eyes) with posteriorly dislocated IOLs

Ocular injuries following sulfur mustard (SM) exposure are characterized by an acute phase expressed by corneal erosions and inflammation of the anterior segment that after a clinically silent period may be followed by irreversible corneal injuries. The latter includes epithelial defects, chronic inflammation and neovascularization (NV), and were defined in rabbits and in humans as Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency (LSCD), that derived from a delayed loss of corneal epithelial stem cells (ESC), due to secondary processes most likely in the epithelial stem cell (SC) niche. The present study expands o

Gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) is a surgery that opens the trabecular meshwork (TM) circumferentially after cannulation of the Schlemm canal (SC) with a flexible illuminated microcatheter or suture. The main purpose of this case report was to describe a new complication of GATT. Herein, we report a case of partial SC, TM, and Descemet membrane (DM) separation during GATT. The patient was a 60-year-old man with a history of glaucoma who underwent GATT. SC, TM, and DM separation occurred intraoperatively during 360 degrees trabeculotomy. The separated tissue fragment was r

PURPOSE: Limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) is characterized by the loss of limbal epithelial stem cells, resulting in a pathological process termed 'conjunctivalization' which compromises corneal transparency, leading to blindness. Current diagnosis for LSCD is limited because reliable conjunctiva-specific biomarkers are lacking. This study sought to address this shortcoming through the serendipitous discovery of insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP)-7.
METHODS: IGFBP-7 expression was determined in normal (n=83) and conjunctivalized (n=52) mouse corneas with experimentally-induc

Simple limbal epithelial transplantation (SLET) is an emerging technique for treating unilateral limbal stem cell deficiency. We report the high-resolution, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) features of the first 2 weeks of a patient undergoing SLET for an old acid injury of the right eye, repeatedly from postoperative day 1 through day 14. Three out of 11 explants with the subjacent human amniotic membrane (hAM) and the overlaid bandage contact lens were imaged. The hAM was intact and of the same thickness throughout the study period; the sub-hAM space increased from day 3 t
