Biopsychosocial determinants of anxiety and depression among working mothers in China: A public mental health perspective.

Working mothers often face dual demands from work and parenting, increasing their risk for anxiety and depression. However, the prevalence and contributing factors among Chinese working mothers remain underexplored. The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence and biopsychosocial determinants of anxiety and depression in this population. A cross-sectional survey was conducted between October 17 and November 21, 2024 through WeChat online among 330 working mothers aged 30-45 years old using validated instruments, including the Outcome Inventory-21 (OI-21), Parental Stress Scale (PSS), Ex

Hypnosis and nitrous oxide impact on the school aged patients' anxiety and cooperation candidate for tooth extraction: A randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: This randomized clinical trial (RCT) investigated whether hypnosis would lead to favorable outcomes in reducing anxiety, enhancing cooperation, and improving physiological responses in school-aged children undergoing tooth extraction compared to nitrous oxide/oxygen (N2O/O2) and conventional behavior guidance (CBG). METHODS: Sixty-six school-aged children (mean age: 7.87 ± 1.18 years) who needed one posterior primary tooth extraction were included. Children with low-to-moderate anxiety were randomly divided into three groups (n = 22 each): hypnosis, N2O/O2, and CBG. Anxiety levels

Gratitude, optimism, and satisfaction with life and patient-reported outcomes in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

OBJECTIVE: Associations between positive psychological well-being (PPWB) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs, e.g., quality of life [QOL]) have yet to be studied extensively in patients with hematologic malignancies who are allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) survivors, despite substantial evidence that PPWB impacts PROs of other medical populations. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data examining the association of PPWB and PROs at day 100 post-transplant among 158 allogeneic HSCT recipients. Optimism, gratitude, life satisfaction, and PROs (i.e.

Validity and reliability of the perseverative thinking questionnaire in patients with fibromyalgia.

BACKGROUND: Patients with fibromyalgia often experience repetitive negative thinking, which contributes to psychological distress. The Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire (PTQ) is a tool designed to assess this cognitive pattern. However, its psychometric properties have not been tested in fibromyalgia. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the PTQ in patients with fibromyalgia. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in patients meeting the 2016 revisions to the 2010/2011 fibromyalgia diagnostic criteria. Participants were asked to complete the PTQ, R

The prospective relationship between satisfaction with information and symptoms of depression and anxiety in breast cancer: A structural equation modeling analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Previous research has demonstrated associations between satisfaction with information and reduced emotional distress in cancer patients. However, as most studies were cross-sectional, the direction of this relationship remained unclear. We therefore aimed to test whether information satisfaction predicted subsequent depression and anxiety levels, and, reciprocally, depression and anxiety levels predicted subsequent information satisfaction, thus clarifying the direction of impact. METHODS: We performed a secondary analysis of a prospective cohort study with 436 female breast cancer

Is social isolation/alienation confounded with, and non-independent of, emotional distress in its association with early onset of coronary artery disease?

Both emotional distress (ED) and social isolation/alienation (SI/A) have been found to prospectively predict adverse cardiac events, but few studies have tested the confounding/redundancy of these measures as correlates/predictors of outcomes. In this study, 163 patients with documented coronary artery disease (CAD) were interviewed for multiple indices of SI/A and administered the Symptom Checklist 90 - Revised (SCL90R). A spouse or friend provided an independent rating of ED using the spouse/friend version of the Ketterer Stress Symptom Frequency Checklist (KSSFC). The measures of ED and SI/

The Cultural Face of Physical, Emotional, and Social Resilience: Turkish Validation of the Essential Resilience Scale (ERS).

This study aims to adapt The Essential Resilience Scale (ERS), which assesses resilience within the framework of anticipation, flexibility, and bounce back mechanisms and consists of three sub-dimensions: physical, emotional and social resilience, into Turkish and to evaluate its psychometric properties. The sample consists of a total of 327 participants, 267 females (81.7%) and 58 males (17.7%) between the ages of 18-70 (M = 27.08, SD = 9.73). Test-retest correlation, corrected item-total correlation and Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficients were calculated to test reliability. T

METHODS: The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and financial stress scale were administered to adults with acquired and CHD at 4 tertiary referral centers in the United States prior to cardiac catheterization. Student's t-test and least absolute

Analysis of vestibular-balance symptoms according to symptom duration: dimensionality of the Vertigo Symptom Scale-short form.

BACKGROUND: Dizziness or vertigo is associated with both vestibular-balance and psychological factors. A common assessment tool is the Vertigo Symptom Scale (VSS) -short form, which has two subscales: vestibular-balance and autonomic-anxiety. Despite frequent use, the factor structure of the VSS-short form has yet to be confirmed. Here, we clarified the factor structure of the VSS-short form, and assessed the validity and reliability of the Japanese version of this tool. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional, multicenter, psychometric evaluation of patients with non-central dizziness or ver

[Obstructive sleep apnea as an aggravating factor of cognitive impairment in vascular cognitive disorder].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) on cognitive function and the severity of anxiety-depressive symptoms in patients with moderate vascular cognitive disorder (VCD), and identify the most susceptible cognitive domains. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty-one patients with moderate VCD were examined. The main group consisted of patients with moderate VCD and severe OSAS (n=26, AHI≥30), compared to patients with moderate VCD but without OSAS (n=25, AHI<5). Cardiorespiratory monitoring was used to diagnose OSAS. Neuropsychological testing included the Mon

Psychometric properties of the Ruminative Response Scale-short form in a clinical sample of patients with major depressive disorder.

BACKGROUND: The Ruminative Response Scale (RRS)-short form is one of the most widely used measures of rumination, comprising ten items and two components: reflection and brooding. The aim of this study was to investigate RRS validity and reliability in a clinical sample of French patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Outpatients with a DSM-IV-TR diagnosis of MDD were recruited from a public academic hospital in France. Depressive symptoms were evaluated by the Beck Depression Inventory, anxiety by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory - state scale, and quality of l
